29 February 2012The Voice 2 - Auditions #4Sera Hill - 'I'm Going Down' Powerful voice, very MJ Blige - she's got that R&B thing going on! Whitney Myer - 'No One' by Alicia Keys Finally, we get to see someone perform this all-time singing competition song favourite being given a different interpretation. She picked Adam out of the 4 choices given to her. Wade - 'Rehab' by Amy Winehouse Great improvisation, great interpretation of the Amy hit. Very clever with the vocal thrills. Orlando Napier - 'Waiting On The World To Change' by John Mayer HAHA, loved the way he keeps tapping his legs when he was at the piano. It was interesting to hear it in a more country version, thought the twang surprisingly complemented the song choice. The Shields Brothers - 'Dancing With Myself' Classic rocker duo. Not my kind of style, but you sure could tell they were having fun. Cee Lo picked them. Lex Lands - 'I Can't Make You Love Me' by Bonnie Raitt She's got that nice sultry voice. You could tell she was a bag of nerves performing it, and it's precisely because of that lack of confidence that makes her pretty intriguing. She picked Blake. Lee Koch - 'Like A Rolling Stone' He reminded me of Paul McDonald, though he's not as confident and charismatic on stage. He certainly has got the musical sensibilities, plus he can play a harmonica! Christina picked him to fill up her final spot. Adley Stump - 'Last Night' by Carrie Underwood Ooh, it's that hoochy Carrie song! No idea why anyone would perform this as their audition piece. Nevertheless, Blake and Christina (huh, why did she press the button?) were rooting for her, and she went ahead with Blake. Cheesa - 'If I Were A Boy' by Beyonce Charice gone wrong. Cee Lo, why did you pick her!?! Labels: The Voice (Season 2) American Idol 11: Top 12 Guys (Performances)Colton Dixon - 'Decode' by Paramore I watched this last out of all the guys for the reason - I knew it would be fantastic. Verse was amazing when he was so soft-rock with it, first chorus was slightly quavering, but by the time he hit it the second time, boy we were looking at someone who is able to take smart risks. He is Mr. Relevant. A Phillip Phillips - 'In The Air Tonight' by Phil Collins Why no intro video?! How can one's voice have such an amazing growl?!?!?! How much does it cost, I wanna buy! He's so brilliant. Let's see if my 4 picks really make it to the Top 12! A- Heejun Han - 'Angels' by Robbie Williams HIS MUM IS HILARIOUS. A+ FOR HEEJUN'S MUM. Undoubtedly, he's got a great voice, and he's got the WHOLE ASIAN COMMUNITY rallying behind him, so he'll definitely be secured of a Top 8 spot at the very least (considering Asians constitute 12.5% of the American population? LOL). Two problems with Heejun: his accent, and his lack of sincerity in delivery. It's obvious he's not getting a recording contract, but he makes for entertainment and Asian pride. B+ Joshua Ledet - 'You Pulled Me Through' by Jennifer Hudson You know, I get slightly annoyed when some guys sing like that, but he was able to make me not cringe. Hudson would be proud of him. Even if he's gonna not make the cut, Broadway is ready to receive him with open arms. A- Reed Grimm - 'Moves Like Jagger' by Maroon 5 feat. Christina Aguilera My goose pimples popped out when Ryan announced the song title, because I was so ready to hear him destroy it. Surprisingly though, he gave it a very interesting jazzy big-band twist which worked in his favour. B+ Creighton Fraker - 'True Colors' by Cyndi Lauper He's crazy - but that's a good thing. I always dislike it when he goes all screamy and yell-y, but he took control of his voice today. I worry about his diversity of song choices, but he will be a colourful individual to watch nevertheless. He and Reed have a lot of similarities. B+ Those needless for a video embed (ie THEY SHOULDN'T BE ON STAGE NEXT WEEK): Jermaine Jones - 'Dance With My Father' by Luther Vandross Adam Brock - 'Think' by Aretha Franklin Aaron Marcellus - 'Never Can Say Goodbye' by The Jackson 5 Jeremy Rosado - 'Gravity' by Sara Bareilles Eben Frackewitz - 'Set Fire To The Rain' by Adele Labels: American Idol 28 February 2012Shows To Catch This SpringAs a reminder to myself, I have created a list of shows to watch over the week. Mondays The Amazing Race 20 Tuesdays Celebrity Apprentice How I Met Your Mother Wednesdays The Voice 2 Smash Thursdays Glee 3 American Idol Fridays American Idol Survivor: One World Saturdays Modern Family The Firm Sundays Desperate Housewives Project Runway: All-Stars I've decided to just drop America's Next Top Model due to its increasingly ridiculous themes (It's ANTM, hence, why in the world is Tyra thinking of incorporating British models into the mix?!) So, farewell ANTM, it's been fun watching. 27 February 2012American Idol 11 - Top 24 (My 4 Picks)
It's time to skip personal bios of every single Top 24 contestant, and zoom right into those that have a shot at breaking into the music industry. Here are some of those I have set my sights on:
![]() 1) Colton Dixon He surprisingly did not make the Top 24 cut last season. This time around, he had zero intentions of joining the competition, but instead wanted to cheer his sister on. The judges convinced him to try out, and boy he made it so far. I've enjoyed his song choices till now, and he's certainly got the very mainstream pop-rock vibes in him. Here's him performing Daughtry's 'What About Now' on the Ellen show last year, and Coldplay's 'Fix You' on the final judgement round. 2) Phillip Phillips When he performs, he just channels so much energy into it, you unknowingly get infected too. His very few audition of 'Superstition' and 'Thriller' was still the most explosive to me. How can he even manage to repeat 'I'd treat you right I will' yet have so many layers of emotion?? Amazing. 3) Jen HirshShe could be this season's answer to Katharine McPhee. Powerhouse vocals, a very vivacious personality, and decent looks to complete the package. Not so crazy about an acoustic number which she uploaded on her Youtube account, though I was still blown away by her Hollywood performances, especially her 'Georgia On My Mind'. 4) Jessica SanchezIf anything, this lady should be one of the frontrunners of this season, and might go all the way to claim the title. Just listen to her renditions of Etta James' 'I'd Rather Go Blind' and 'The Prayer', and you know she'll be in for the long haul. P.S She was a semi-finalist on America's Got Talent when she was only 11.
The guys take the stage this Wednesday! Plus, one more guy gets thrown into the mix to make it a Top 13 guys, and it will either be Jermaine Jones, Richie Law, David Leathers, or Johnny Keyser. I'd personally prefer Johnny, though it's pretty obvious they're getting David back, BUT I DO NOT LIKE HIM.

Florence & The Machine - No Light, No Light
Ed Sheeran - Lego House Rihanna - We Found Love Coldplay - Charlie Brown Adele - Rolling In The Deep Bruno Mars - Just The Way You Are Olly Murs - Heart Skips A Beat Pitchy to the max. One Direction winning British Single Adele winning Album of the Year Noel Gallaghers' High Flying Birds - AKA.. What A Life Blur - This Is A Low / Tender Blur - Girls & Boys / Song 2 / Parklife The Voice 2 (Auditions #3)Jamie Lono - 'Folsom Prison Blues' Adam Levine really has got an eye for talent. What an incredibly professional performance, and he is so humble. Great Johnny Cash rendition. And hello? Adam buzzed for you 3 seconds into the song and you went with Cee Lo?! Charlotte Sometimes - 'Apologize' How on earth can Sometimes be a legit surname? Nevertheless, she has a voice that is so bloody unique. Her voice is like a crossbreed of Adele, Lana, and Taylor Momsen. LOVED IT. She went with Blake, good choice. Mathai - 'Rumour Has It' OMG, it's a soulful & sultry version of M.I.A! So sassy and attractive. I was like secretly clapping with her in the office LOL. Can't believe she performed with such calmness. What's more, she pick Adam w oohoo!Jonathas - 'U Got It Bad' OMG, INCREDIBLE JOB! What's more, he's white! How can you be white and have such Usher soulvibes in you?!?! I cannot believe no one pressed their buttons till so late into the song! Can't believe he's got a diamond G-shock that's SIMILAR to Cee Lo's. LOL. CANNOT BELIEVE that he chose Xtina instead as well. Naia Kete - 'The Lazy Song' Blake wants Xenia 2.0. Those dreadlocks are super long. Sweet, pristine yet infectious voice, and it sure does help that she can play an instrument! She picked Blake. Nicolle Gaylon - 'You Save Me' Aww, what a sweet family. Talented girl who tells a story on stage. Looks like she's ready to be on the route of singer-songwriterdom. Adam Levine picked her. Monique Benabou - 'Mr. Know It All' Great song choice, but she was slightly over-the-top, so there's something to be worked on. Great personality, could go pretty far there. Christina chose her. Tony Vincent - 'We Are The Champions' Sinead O' Connor OMG. I don't know what to make out of his look, but he got a loud voice from that small frame. It would be great if he had some hair. Cee Lo picked him. Anthony Evans - 'What's Going On' A very passionate delivery, though I was surprised Xtina was the one who pressed the button! Justin Hopkins - 'Babylon' He's got that unique twang to his voice. True for Cee Lo to say there's room for growth, and I didn't get to see much of that in the previous season. Cee Lo was the only judge to pick him. Ashley De La Roas, Jordan Rager, Karla Davis, AlyX The songs performed were 'Shark In The Water', 'Chicken Fried', 'If I Die Young', 'Just Like A Pill', and the mentor the act picked were Xtina, Blake, Adam, and Blake respectively. Erin Martin - 'Hey There Delilah'
Blake totally saw promise in this. He must've been like 'THIS IS MY DIA FRAMPTON THIS SEASON'. Too bad, she picked Cee Lo. Love the styling, love the song choice, love her voice, ahhh, so tingling. Pip - 'House Of The Rising Sun' A totally unexpected voice from that small frame. Love his fashion sense too! He chose Adam. James Massone - 'Find Your Love' Ooh, a Drake song? The crowd reaction definitely stirred some interest amongst the judges. He chose Cee Lo, which I would say is the best fit for him. A white guy with soul haha. Jordis Unga - 'Maybe I'm Amazed' THIS WOMAN WAS FROM ONE SEASON OF ROCKSTAR: INXS! I REMEMBER SHE HAD DREADLOCKS! So, I went to do some research and true enough. She definitely has matured, and has a fuller voice this time around. Still very screechy on the higher notes though. She chose Blake. From hard rock to country huh? Katrina Parker - 'One Of Us' I first heard this from Glee. She has a pleasant voice, and the song choice was pretty great. Very laidback. She needs to do something with the styling though. Levine wouldn't have chosen her had he not seen that! Chris Cauley - 'Grenade' Overchill already. He should've just given it a bit more push. But Adam and Cee Lo saw promise in him, and I guess he was really glad to have seen Adam press the buzzer. Erin Willet - 'I Want You Back' Blake must've been like 'oh crap, she looks like that?' when he turned around. I mean, she's got a good voice, but that's about all to that package. Sarah Golden - 'You And I' Thoroughly unimpressed. Seriously, Cee Lo? Geoff McBride - 'Higher Ground' Stevie Wonder cut his hair! Oh, oops, maybe not. I don't see where Xtina is trying to go this season with all the weird picks. She used to coach the divas! Now, she's coaching random guys who doesn't seem cut out for the industry! Nathan Parrett - 'The Joker' Brian Fuente - 'Paris, Ooh La La' Moses Stone - 'Let's Get It Started' They were picked by Levine, Shelton, and Aguilera respectively. Creighton Fraker, Aaron Marcellus, Nick Boddington, and Jen Hirsh - 'Sealed With A Kiss'
All the belters form one group. This was so polished, so classy. Jen is spectacular. VERDICT: All through except Nick. Erm, I bet it had nothing to do with the looks. Not. Skylar Laine, Cari Quoyeser, Chase Likens, Colton Dixon - 'Dedicated' Very classy. I like the Cari girl, she reminds me of Haley (why didn't they like her?!), and this time around, I'm sure Colton is going to make it into the Top 24. VERDICT: All through except Cari. Lauren Gray, Wendy Taylor, and Mathenee Treco - 'Will You Still Love Me' Love Lauren's voice. Both the women were amazing. VERDICT: All in except Mathenee. Jessica Sanchez, Deandre Brandensick and Candice Glover - Doesn't Matter Anymore Jessica's pretty powerful huh! I remember Deandre from like seasons ago - he just keeps joining. VERDICT: All through. Schyler Dixon (Colton's sister), Brielle von Hugel, Molly didn't-get-the-surname - 'Why Do Fools In Love' Such cute outfits! So Candyman! Brielle and Schyler made an impact, but not Molly-dunno-who. VERDICT: All through except Molly. Reed Grimm, Elise Testone, Haley Johnson, Eben Franckewitz - 'Night Has A Thousand Eyes' The jazzy feel definitely complemented Reed's singing style, but it was so unsuitable for Eben. He still rocked it though, but I wouldn't want to see him performing songs like these anymore. Very tight dynamics amongst them - they can form an acapella quartet. VERDICT: All through. David Leather Jrs, Jeremy Rosado, Ariel Sprague and Gabi Carrubba - 'Rockin Robin' This is the stupidest song to perform, considering Megan Joy did it a few seasons back and boy she nailed it because it was so Megan. They made the most out of the corniness though. VERDICT: All through. Adam Brock, Erika Van Pelt, Angie Zeiderman, Shelby Tweten - 'Great Balls Of Fire' Did Taufiq or Sylvester do this before? Angie is hilarious, I don't see any possibility of her making it into the Live Shows, but if they choose to take a risk... VERDICT: All through, pretty happy for Angie haha. Britnee Kellogg, Courtney Williams, Jessica Phillips - 'Keep Me Hanging On' Oh no, a C-grade Dreamgirls performance. Why is Jessica torturing herself to this crap? I want to remember her as that thoughtful girlfriend who's seeing her boyfriend through a tough time, not as a bar hostess. VERDICT: All through except Jessica Phillips. Sour grapes much. No love. Neco Starr, Jairon Jackson, Heejun Han, Phil Phillips - 'Only Have Eyes For You' World's most boring song on earth. Why do the producers even hand them such a number to perform!?!? And did Phillip Phillips just change his name to Phil Phillips? Funny much? VERDICT: All through. Clayton Farhat, Scott Dangerfield, Adam Lee Decker, Curtis Gray - 'Jailhouse Rock' 4 Elvises take the stage. Their identical clothing really doesn't help distinguish themselves. Only Curtis stood out for me. In a bad way. Didn't channel Elvis if that's what they were trying to achieve. VERDICT: All through except Curtis. Richie & Jermaine - 'Make It Easy On Yourself' This is exactly what I do not want to see. Skip. Richie is plain annoying, it's like a Scotty McCreery gone demented. VERDICT: Both through. RESULTS of Top 42 ANNOUNCED Colton's sister didn't make the cut, alongside Gabi Carrubba, Britnee Kellogg (huh, she didn't do anything wrong?), Angie Zeiderman, and Johnny Keyser (WHATTTTT?!?!?!?! PISSED). Labels: American Idol 16 February 2012American Idol 11 - Group Auditions
SOLO PERFORMANCES
Phillip Phillips & Jen Hirsh Yea, loving Phillip's voice, and this Jen woman is blowing the competition away huh - INSANE PIPES. She just needs MUCH BETTER styling advice. Joshua Ledet - 'Jar of Hearts' Colton Dixon - 'What About Now' Joshua left me pretty petrified. I mean, the range is insane, but it was pretty over-the-top?! But when Colton came up, I was like YAY! Cool hair, cool outfit, cool performance with the keyboard, song choice suited him so well. At least he knows who he is as an artist, not someone who performs Christina Perri so randomly. Creighton Fraker - 'Wonderful World' He's a breath of fresh air. A bit kaopei at times, but I guess that can be worked on with some control. Adam Brock - 'Georgia On My Mind' White chocolate - is that seriously what he wants others to know him as?! Ok, very diva, he's got this old soul that Idol adores. Shannon Magrane - 'Wonderful World' Don't like. But for a 16-year-old, not bad la huh. Reed Grimm - 'Georgia On My Mind' Don't like all the random drama before th performance, but yeah, he's got some Casey Abrams in him. Skylar Laine & Rachelle Lamb The contestants this season love fainting. She's a great country singer though! GROUP PERFORMANCES Hollywood 5 - 'Mercy' Get past the nonsense and start at 1:00. A quintet of under-20s delivering an impressive rendition of 'Mercy'. Seriously, after all the crap, finally something decent. Features Ariel Sprague, Eben Franckewitz, Gabi Carrubba, David Leathers Jr., and Jeremy Rosado. Groovesauce - 'Hold On, I'm Coming' Features two of this season's hot favourites Creighton Fraker and Jen Hirsh. MIT - 'Broken Strings' Heejun has this accent that I don't really like, but his tone is pretty magical for an Asian haha. Phillip Phillips (what a name) has those contorted gestures that reminds me of Paul McDonald! Area 451 - 'Broken Strings' Call me mean, but that girl really shouldn't go up stage after fainting TWICE. Johnny Keyser must have been pretty peeved being placed in such a crappy group. 679 - 'Hit Em Style' Brielle (part of Pia's amazing trio who performed 'Grenade' last season) is in this number, and does great. Shannon Magrane looks like a tall Emma Watson. The Bettys - Hit 'Em Up Terrible. Don't watch. Labels: American Idol 12 February 20122012: Soundmunches #5
Jay-Z & Kanye West - Niggas in Paris
Will Young - Losing Myself Sam Sparro - The Shallow End Flo Rida - Wild Ones (feat. Sia) LIGHTS - Banner Gareth Emery - Concrete Angel (feat. Christina Novelli) Martin Solveig & Dragonette - Big In Japan (feat. Idoling) Katy Perry - Part Of Me Labels: Soundmunches 08 February 2012The Voice - Season 2 (#1 Auditions)Coaches' Performance - Prince Medley! I just love how they are ALL able to PERFORM. Capable judges who practise what they preach! Blake Shelton's Team (ie Country Specialist) Gwen Sebastian - 'Stay' Blake Shelton LOVES her. Her youtube account (http://www.youtube.com/user/GwenSebastian/videos) has quite a lot of works which means she has come a long long way, and she really is pretty good! Jermaine Paul - 'Complicated' by Avril Lavigne Didn't know what was going through his mind when he decided on the song choice. He has a powerful voice, but too huge of an ego. Don't particularly like him, and if he simply produces songs like these (below), I don't see him making it any bigger. RaeLynn - 'Hell On Heels' by Miranda Lambert Talented girl with a bright country future, so I thought she made the perfect choice sticking with Blake. Adam was quite an ass when he put down the whole country genre. I mean, as much as I don't appreciate country music too, I think we should respect the type of music that artists make. Jermaine Paul from Team Blake and Angie Johnson from Team Cee Lo Cee Lo Green's Team (Soul/Hip-Hop/Alternative Specialist) Angie Johnson - 'Heartbreaker' This is the woman that sang the amazing 'Rolling In The Deep' cover in the army! She's a Staff Sergeant. Very strong pitch. Juliet Simms - 'Oh! Darling' Absolutely incredible voice. How is her throat not painful after all that growling?! Adam and Xtina totally at each other's throat! Her video called 'Hush' garnered over a million views, and you can tell the songs she's going to produce in the long run. Very unique girl. Jamar Rogers - 'Seven Nation Army' SO MUCH BETTER than Marcus Collins' ridiculous studio version. He's SO OBVIOUSLY trying to get Cee Lo's attention! The growl resembles Cee Lo's so much! Liking this version of 'Bad Romance' too! Juliet Simms & Jamar Rogers from Team Cee Lo Adam Levine's Team (Pop/Rock/R&B Specialist) Tony Lucca - 'Trouble' AMAZING VOICE. Ray LaMontagne meets James Morrison! Want this fella to go so far. Can't believe he was from the Mickey Mouse Club LOLOL. So in love with his rendition of 'I Can't Make You Love Me'. Angel Taylor - 'Someone Like You' by Adele I love the quality of her voice, though I'm not too keen on her frequent broken record cuts at the end of each phrase. Tony Lucca and Angel Taylor from Team Adam Kim Yarbrough - 'Tell Me Something Good' Haha, got to love those low notes! 'My name is Kim', 'No, your name is Chaka Khan baby!' LOL. Christina Aguilera's Team (Divas/Mad Skills Vocalists Specialist) Jesse Campbell - 'A Song For You' 'I've been so many places in my life and time...' and 3 PEOPLE TURNED IMMEDIATELY OMG. Really goes to show that you're really successful if you can capture people's attention in the first line. Incredible riffs, Grammy-worthy already. Couldn't be any timelier for the producers to play Xtina's 'Fighter' in the background. Chris Mann - 'Because We Believe' I didn't know such genres could make it on The Voice. Super powerful tenor there, what a voice! He performed 'The Prayer' with Katharine McPhee too, and is backed up by David Foster. HELLO, THIS MEANS HE'S GOING PLACES. Lindsey Pavao - 'Say Aah' Very interesting voice. She's like a mix of last season's Xenia and runner-up Dia Frampton. Blake Shelton was spot on to liken her to Fiona Apple. The Line - 'American Girl' You may have thought all country acts are going to Blake, like DUH right. But NO, they went with Christina which is super weird. Both of them are pretty strong, great harmonies. Rejected Dez Duron - 'I Want It That Way' Oh man, why did he have to pick that song. Went to see his youtube account, and he did an amazing mash-up of Mraz's 'I'm Yours' and Rihanna's 'You Da One'! He'll definitely be back for the Wildcard Round. Chris Mann from Team Xtina and Rejected contestant Dez Duron Daniel Rosa - 'Animal' by Neon Trees The start was so promising, but he just lost it along the way, it got really really pitchy. Pamela Rose - 'Already Gone' What an inauspicious song choice. Neal Middleton - 'I Heard It Through The Grapevine' He was good, but it's true, there's nothing special about it.
