For more photos of the concert, you can view my Facebook album!

Meeting the Top 11 of SYTYCD7!

Some changes have been made this season, and they include:
  • Mary Murphy stepping down as a permanent judge, with Mia Michaels replacing her.
  • The All-Stars Dance Pool features some of the best and most popular dancers that have been featured on previous seasons. They will act as partners for the top eleven contestants this season, and will rotate every week. Each of the dancers represents one specific style of dance and will only dance in that genre with a partner. They will not choreograph any routines but will learn like the contestants do. Amongst them are some of my personal favourites, Neil Haskell and Pasha Kovalev from Season 3, and Mark Kanemura and Courtney Galiano from Season 4,

My pre-show favourites!

2010 RealityMunches Top 50 Songs (January-June 2010) #1-#10

#1 Lady GaGa & Beyonce – Telephone

3 things about the song:
• The main inspiration of the song was Gaga’s fear of not being able to enjoy herself because of her dedication to her career. The lyrics portray the singer as preferring the dancefloor, rather than answering her lover’s phone calls.
• The song was originally written for Britney, but the latter’s label rejected it. In addition, the guest vocalist was originally going to be spears, but Gaga made Knowles the featured vocalist instead.
• The song has peaked at #3 and #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and UK Singles Chart respectively.

#2 Ke$ha – Blah Blah Blah (feat. 3OH!3)

3 things about the song:
• ‘Blah Blah Blah’ is a midtempo electropop song that lyrically takes a shot at the way men objectify women by speaking about them the way that they do in the music industry.
• Ke$ha performed for the first time a heavily censored version of the song on the ninth season of American Idol with 3OH!3. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C62Pspdfb4E]
• The song has peaked at #7 and #11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and UK Singles Chart respectively.

#3 Cheryl Cole – 3 Words (feat. Will.i.am)

3 things about the song:
• Cheryl Cole has referred to ‘3 Words’ as her favourite song on the record, saying that the song was ‘totally different from anything I’ve done [with Girls Aloud] or liked before’ and took its inspiration from Cole’s newly acquired love for dance music on the charts, especially David Guetta and Kelly Rowland’s ‘When Love Takes Over’.
• The music video cleverly makes use of the split screens, which reunited Cole and will.i.am momentarily at points as the scenes continue to segue into one another.
• The song has peaked at #1 on the UK Singles Chart.

#4 Marina And The Diamonds – Hollywood

3 things about the song:
• When asked why ‘Hollywood’ was chosen as the second single of her debut studio album, The Family Jewels, Marina Diamandis said: ‘This is who I was. Hollywood infected my brain and I really valued the wrong things in life, but I changed dramatically. This obsession with celebrity culture is really unhealthy. I don’t want to live my life like that, and I don’t want to be a typical pop star. The track is a sarcastic and cynical take on everything that’s commercial about America’.
• The music video shows a number of characters and objects that symbolize the stereotype of American culture, including cheerleaders, jocks, American football players, a pageant queen, paparazzi, baseball players, hot dogs, popcorn, Academy Awards, and lookalikes of James Dean, Marilyn Monroe and Barack Obama.
• The song peaked at #12 on the UK Singles Chart.

#5 Kelis – Acapella

3 things about the song:
• Kelis stated that she wrote the song ‘with love and life in my mind’ and as a tribute to her son, Knight.
• The song has been praised for its inspirational lyrics [‘Before you my whole life was acapella, now a symphony is the only song to sing.”] and its uptempo feel-good vibe which includes angelic harmonies.
• The song has peaked at #1 and #5 on the U.S Hot Dance Club Songs and UK Singles Charts respectively.

#6 Vampire Weekend – Cousins

3 things about the song:
• The song was recorded by the band in Mexico City and debuted a few days later in Guadalajara, the capital of the Mexican state of Jalisco.
• The video of this infectious track is described as ‘quick, quirky, and unpredictable but not without a sense of humour about itself, so pretty much perfect for a band of Ivy Leaguers (They come from Columbia University) who aren’t above self-satirizing their prepped up ways.’
• The song peaked at #18 and #39 on the Billboard Alternative Chart and UK Singles Chart respectively.

#7 Jay Sean – Down (feat. Lil’ Wayne)

3 things about the song:
• The song has made him the first UK Urban act to ever top Billboard’s Hot 100.
• According to data released by Google, ‘Down’ is one of the top five most searched-for songs of 2009 on the internet.
• The song has peaked at #1 and #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and UK Singles Chart respectively. It is the seventh-best selling single of 2009, having sold more than 3 million digital copies in the United States alone.

#8 Jason Derulo – Whatcha Say

3 things about the song:
• ‘Whatcha Say’ heavily samples the song ‘Hide and Seek’ by Imogen Heap.
• A music video was released for the acoustic version, with J.R Rotem playing the piano. In addition, Derulo recorded a French-English version with Fanny J, a singer from French Guiana.
• The song has peaked at #1 and #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and UK Singles Chart respectively.

#9 Rihanna – Rude Boy

3 things about the song:
• The music video of the song is based on a Jamaican dancehall theme with references to Keith Haring, the graffiti art wiz.
• The song allowed Rihanna to project a dominant female image that is exactly what was needed to move past the Chris Brown chapter in her career.
• The song has peaked at #1 and #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and UK Singles Chart respectively.

#10 Jay-Z – Empire State Of Mind (feat. Alicia Keys)

3 things about the song:
• The song is an anthemic ode to both artists’ native New York, and features a music sample of ‘Love on a Two-Way Street’ by The Moments.
• The video features black-and-white images of NYC (John D. Rockefeller Jr’s grave, Statue of Liberty, Yankee Stadium, NYPD cars and logos) intercut with full-colour shots of Jay-Z and Keys performing in Times Square.
• The song has gone 3x Platinum in the US, and has peaked at #1 and #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and UK Singles Chart respectively.

Video Link]

3 things about the song:

• The song is the lead single from her sophomore album, inside Out.
• The song not only features Akon, but is produced by David Guetta.

• The music video feature Alison Goldfrapp driving a truck hauling a rocket with someone entirely wrapped in duct tape that is then taped to the rocket when it is launched at the end.

#24 Paramore - Brick By Boring Brick [
Video Link]

3 things about the song:

• The song is the second single from Paramore’s third album Brand New Eyes.
• I love the ‘ba-ba-ba’ climax – absolutely brilliant. Like how Vicki Lutas of the BBC puts it, ‘Listening to the lyrics is like entering a world where sandcastle's aren't built, but buried. There's a sense of longing; longing for those fairy tales and longing for innocence, but it's coupled with a sense of realization that this will never happen.’

• As quoted by NME.com, ‘Islands’ is a psychogeographical love song which finds Oliver Sim and Romy Madley-Croft cooing, ‘I am yours now, so now I never have to leave/I’ve been found out, so I’ll never explore’: the perfect soundtrack for wandering aimlessly along rainy London Streets.
• WATCH THE VIDEO.

#40 Paloma Faith - Upside Down [
Video Link]

• ‘Upside Down’ is the fourth single from her debut album Do You Want The Truth Or Something Beautiful?
• The song, revealing Faith’s influences from the pre-rock ‘n’ roll era mixed with a ‘50s dance hall vibe, peaked at #55 on the UK Singles Chart.

2010 RealityMunches Top 50 Songs (January-June 2010) #41-#50

#41 Mika – Kick Ass [Video Link]

3 things about the song:
• The song was produced by RedOne, and was released as a single from the soundtrack to the film Kick-Ass.

3 things about the song:
• The song, produced by David Guetta, was released as her third international single, after ‘American Boy’ and ‘Come Over’.

3 things about the song:
• ‘I Got You’ is Leona’s second single from her second album, Echo.

• Unlike her other power ballads (‘Happy’, ‘Bleeding Love’), the production and melody of this song isn’t able to distinguish it from other pop ballads of recent years.

#44 Avril Lavigne - Alice [Video Link]

3 things about the song:
• The song is sung from the perspective of the film’s lead character, Alice. Lavigne wrote the song after asking film director Tim Burton if she could write a song for the film.
• I like the song’s dark and angsty vision, as it felt that Lavigne had returned to her sound in Under My Skin.
• The song peaked at #71 on the Billboard Hot 100.

#45 Jason Castro – Let’s Just Fall In Love Again [Video Link]

3 things about the song:

#46 Adam Lambert – If I Had You [Video Link]

3 things about the song:
• Lott chose this song as her third single and her first ballad single because she wanted to do something more classy, mature and emotional.
• BBC Music’s Paul Lester described the opening line - 'I get your e-mails, you just don't get females, now do you?' – as "witty and wise, a master class in how to put contemporary language to the service of a sublime melody."

Video Link]
