Sizzling This Week (25th - 31st May 2009)

This week's episode of MMASM was fiery. They had to do a photo shoot with real flames, embodying the rocker-dude/rocker-chic personality. Thought Mountaha did fantastic, and her runway was extremely good, but the judges didn't dig it and decided to make the finale an all-male affair. She was absolutely shocked, so was I. Gunning for a Jonathan Waud victory.

---

1) My Chemical Romance - Desolation row
2) Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Heads Will Roll
3) Aqua - Back To The 80s
4) The Script - Before The Worst
5) Jonas Brothers - Paranoid

I find
this and this song HIGHLY annoying.
---
Chalet was fun! HAPPY BIRTHDAY LIONEL and thanks for the stayover. Great fun, great way to end Term 2.

Moving over from the fun to the upcoming CTs... well that would mean that I gotta get into full gear over the June holidays, and blog less, and can be seen by the rather infrequent blog posts I have been making of late.
---

Both Adam Lambert and Susan Boyle, despite being hot favorites, eventually lost to the dark horses, Kris Allen and Diversity. That is one fantastic dance group, who definitely deserved the win. I think the 'Boom Boom Pow' segment was really cool.

24 May 2009

I don't have new HouseD photos. =O

It's been a long week, and my council term's finally over.
The 28ths have handed over to the 29ths.
---
No more HouseD meetings, no more GMs, no more MSes, no more welfare duties, no more functions, no more house initiatives, no more freaking out over IHCs, no more minutes taking, no more attendance taking, no more mass SMSes to send out, no more influxes of emails, no more HouseD dinners and late nights, no more council aunties, no more complaining about teachers, no more bitching about people not putting in their efforts, no more...ok you get the point.
---
From all the shit that began with uncertainities of joining council, to the euphoria I got from BB doing so well, to how I felt so lonely even with 94 humans around me, to the fuel that just ran out as we reached the end of the term... it was one insane ride.
---
To the people that made a difference during my council term, thank you. You have made me a stronger person. Thank you HouseD. Thank you Secretariat. Thank you Teachers' Day. Thank you others-who-do-not-belong-in-those-three-categories-but-who-know-I'll-thank-them. I just realized I haven't gave some notes (not including HouseD), and I'm feeling really bad. =(
---
Only found 2 new tracks this week, and it's coming from the 2 American Idols.
1) Kris Allen - No Boundaries
2) Jordin Sparks - Battlefield

21 May 2009

And I was right.

Adam gives you a High Five, Kris tells you he's number one. So who won? [Spoilers below.]

Everyone in school was in utter shock HAHA. 'OMG KRIS WON?' 'WTF AMERICA SUCKS!' 'I can't believe this, Kris actually won', 'what? the gay lost?' 'HUH WHO WON? NOT ADAM?' Those SMSes were entertaining.

Oh well, if anything, Kris deserved it. It's somewhat sad now his victory is getting overshadowed by the fact that Adam lost the title. In all honesty, Adam really didn't do well yesterday, and that was the main reason why Kris won. Other people believe that Danny voters contributed to the increased amount of votes to Kris' total, for they are good ol' fellow Christians.

As much as I wanted Kris to win, I really felt that Adam should've been crowned American Idol. He stirred a revolution all around the world. But as you know, it's alright even if you don't win. Daughtry and Jennifer Hudson have been living statements of that. And Adam will certainly shine big time in the near future.

For the moment, let's celebrate Kris's victory. From an unknown who barely got featured in the audition stages, to someone who surprisingly got through the Top 13, to winning the title, it has been a long journey for a guy-next-door from Arkansas. Kris showed us his unique musicality and displayed his musical prowness on the guitar and piano. He can almost do anything, and I daresay he's up for the challenge.
The only downside to this stunning victory: He'd have to sing "No Boundaries" one more time.

nooooooo....

20 May 2009

Kris, you might just win.

Angels and Demons. I recall reading the book a few years ago, and was hooked to it, because it was thrilling to know how someone died in a really unorthodox way every hour - through various means of fire, water, earth and air.
To begin with, I'm still not convinced with Tom Hanks playing the role of Robert Langdon. He's simply too old and frumpy. I think even Ewan McGregor, who was the unseeming mastermind in the attempts to destroy Vatican City, would have suited the protagonist better. He was the saving grace for the movie.
I liked how the cardinals voting for the Pope resembled so much like a student council meeting, I liked how the Illuminati, total science lovers, kidnapped and murdered all the old folks so exquisitely. The book featured much more grisly images, but in the movie, it seems to be showing nothing but weird statues and sculptures. I didn't like the stupid explosion that was caused by the antimatter. Stupid CGI effects that looked very unconvincing.
---
Didn't particularly enjoy tonight's Idol Finale. I was really looking forward to Adam belting out whatever godlike vocals he had, but he was so reserved and seemed very uneasy on a bigger stage. 'Mad World' sounded particularly weird. Kris gave Adam a good run for his money, did a superb rendition of 'Ain't No Sunshine' once again, though he paled in comparison in the second and third song, which is what I believe the worst winner's song after 7 seasons. I thought Kara was capable of more.

How rare it is that Simon does not declare a winner on Finale night? This means that Adam, the hot favorite, might be experiencing a major upset tomorrow morning!

Top 10 Idol Songs of Season 8

1) Matt Giraud - Georgia On My Mind [Hollywood Auditions]
It was this audition that made me love him, and I seriously thought he had a shot at winning the entire competition.
2) Kris Allen - Man In The Mirror [Semi-Finals Group 2]
I recall this was the performance during the group stages that made me notice him. He just emerged out of nowhere, and I knew he would go pretty far in the competition.
3) Adam Lambert - Black Or White [Michael Jackson Week]
His rendition of this MJ song still rings in my head, during tutorials and lectures. It was just impeccable.
4) Adam Lambert - Ring Of Fire [Grand Ole Opry Week]
It was supposed to be country week, Adam would've failed to meet this criteria theoretically speaking. Nevertheless, it was one heck of a weird, yet phenomenal performance.
5) Kris Allen - To Make You Feel My Love [Grand Ole Opry Week]
With just a chair and a microphone, Kris broke away from the guitar and certainly did Garth Brooks very proud. Kris begins to be the frontrunner of the competition.
6) Kris Allen - Ain't No Sunshine [Popular iTunes Downloads, as well as Finale]
He did it not only once, but twice throughout the competition. The performance during the Finale was pitch-perfect and heartfelt. Not only is he marvellous on the guitar, he can rock the piano as well.
7) Adam Lambert - Mad World [Year They Were Born, as well as Finale]
Great song with impactful lyrics. Great entertainer with an impactful voice. What more can I say?
8) Allison Iraheta - Cry Baby
Just like how Matt got eliminated after performing 'My Funny Valentine', Allison also got eliminated after delivering her best solo in a genre that complemented her so well. A great swansong, nevertheless.
9) Kris Allen - Heartless [Top 3 Contestant's Choice]
How in the world could a Kanye West song sound so nice? Kris could do it!
10) Adam Lambert - Cryin' [Top 3 Contestant's Choice]
Didn't really fancy this song till I heard the recording. Totally trash Aerosmith man. No wonder all the rock people on forums and in online articles were raving about it.

Who would you trust with your life?

That'll be JT!
Stephen made too many mistakes at the final stretch. First, he ultimately reveals that he will base his vote on how to better assure him a spot in the finals, voting off Taj. Secondly, when Debbie asks him who he'd take should he have won immunity, Stephen stumbles on the question and reveals that he is afraid that he would have brought Erinn with him instead.

On the other hand, JT was downright honest throughout the entire game, and that was what won the hearts of the jury. He bluntly admits that he could have easily won against Erinn in the final Tribal Council but, instead, did the noble thing and took Stephen with him. JT didn't really betray his alliances as much as Stephen did, and he was frank about it and braved the consequences. Guess that was why he won Survivor: Tocantins.

Investiture took place today, took some nice photos with fabulous people.

Final Night didn't even finish. I felt cheated. Boo.

16 May 2009

Shut up and put your money where your mouth is.

"With friend and foe, we march to the battle plain.
Some to seek success, others to seek fame.
We play with honour, for the love of this game.
And with armour or without, we will toil in vain
So that someday, someone, somewhere
Will remember our name."
- recited by the one and only Dragon Slayer.

Thank goodness the Final Four consists of humans. Hope Erinn can put on a good fight and break through that strong three-way alliance and land herself in the Final Two with Stephen.
---

Danny wins the fifth season of Hell's Kitchen. He's only 23, and he gets to be the head chef of some Borgata Hotel. How lucky.
---

  • Dance Nite this time round took place at the PAC, instead of the cosy venue near my house. Wasn't particularly raving over it after the concert like how I did last year, but I thought some of the performances were really cool (Indian and Modern's SYF pieces, the Freakshow one and the Antidrug Dance.) Well done Sebby and Cheryl! Hope you all liked the hairbands.
  • Lessons today were dreadful. Not all of them, but most of them. Seriously, the timetabling committee should NEVER put 5 consecutive tutorials for classes anymore. It is torturous, especially when your teachers don't really take plight at the fact that after 3 hours, some people might need to visit the toilet, visit the canteen to grab a bite, refill their water bottles, or take a breather.
  • In other news, Squash Boys won the match against ACJC with a scoreline of 4-1, while Netball Girls lost to the same school 48-61. A fair distribution, it is.

3 reality munches.

Idol Finale Showdown: Kris Allen VS Adam Lambert. It actually happened!

Teyona wins Cycle 12 of America's Next Top Model. Allison came in a close second.

OMG. Make Me A Supermodel's catwalk challenge involved wearing Healys. You know, those rollerskating shoes that annoying children wear. Jonathan was in the bottom 3. Jordan was eliminated because she couldn't rollerskate. Sad.

11 May 2009

Why has love always been like a Battlefield?

KoS (without Claire and Kuoying) & The Brother, The Mother and The Other Brother!

Woooo~~ Happy Mother's Day, Mother!
---
"I have been taking Acai tablets now for two months and already lost 36 pounds, it is the same stuff that was on oprah and cnn, Mike and Jen lost so much weight too with no diet or excersise. Order it now, only five dollars a bottle, we are living proof that it works like magic."

No, seriously, a friend of mine wouldn't talk about such a thing on my msn conversations. So don't you try and trick me, you sneaky Acai bastard.
---
Oh, and I predicted Tammy and Victor correctly! Yay! One for Asians! So proud of them.

10 May 2009

Rooting for these 6 people.

America's Next Top Model 12: Allison (though Teyona's got this in the bag)
American Idol 8: Kris Allen (Though Lambert also has gotten this in the bag)
Make Me A Supermodel 2: Jonathan Waud
Survivor: Tocantins: Stephen
Amazing Race: Tammy And Victor (Smart Asians for once)

Happy Mother's Day, Mummy! Will upload photos of the great dinner at Firestation @ Spectra. You know, one of those gentrified places where the government revamps a fire station into a hip and happening eating area. Something resemblent of Dempsey Hill.

Busking went great too, family came down to lend their support for one of the better busking sets we had over those 2 days haha. GO KNIGHTS. Will upload our fantastic performances and our lovely photos on Facebook soon too. Really exhausted, will get some sleep and make full use of Monday.

I was reading through some emails about the hectic week of cheering ahead, and I got to say, some people really are very tactless when it comes to public relations. It's quite 'duh' that someone asks for the venue of a certain competition, as they might have to make personal travelling arrangements after the event, and knowing where the venue is IS important. Being the person in-charge, and yet not knowing where the competition venues are... that just stamps sheer unpreparedness and flippancy all over your face. Don't do that. Those overexaggerated outbursts didn't help much either. A little sensitivity would've been nice.

Idol Song Spoilers (for Judges' Choice.) Close your eyes now if you don't want to know!
Danny Gokey - "Dance Little Sister" by Terence Trent D'Arby (WTH?)
Kris Allen - "Apologize" by OneRepublic & Timbaland
Adam Lambert - "One" by U2 & Mary J Blige

Sizzling This Week (4th-10th May 2009)

When told he'll give you money if you just pray the right way
And when presented like a genie who does magic like Houdini
Or grants wishes like Jiminy Cricket and Santa Claus

09 May 2009

Shy That Way.

Today was a fruitful day. There shone a bacon, I mean, a beacon of light.

I had a good time busking, and watching people busk. The streets were full of lovely people. I enjoyed singing 'Crazy Little Thing Called Love'. "This thing, called love, I just can't handle it." Indeed. I didn't enjoy carrying the amps from the Raffles Rooms to the lorry, and from the lorry to Heeren. I hate setting up equipment, because I absolutely do not know which wires and which plugs connect to which amps and which guitars. I hate feedbacks during performances. I would want to own an apartment along Orchard when I grow up. I like to eat at the basement of Taka. I shouldn't appear intimidating in my smses. I think Filipino maids are very cool, because they took a photo with me when I was singing. I didn't know Plaza Sing was rather near Heeren because I was able to reach PS without feeling extremely tired. I had a good dinner with HouseD - talked nonsense, ate nonsense such as Giant Earthquake, and then talked sense.

Sorry for this very cluttered and disorganized post. It's 12:37am now, and I am tired. Yawn.

Teacher sent this to our email, regarding Much Ado About Nothing.
"All of you will know who Adrian Pang is and will probably associate him with some pretty awful, slapstick sort of humour on TV -so it will be worth you going to see why I think he is probably the best Singaporean male actor around. He was excellent in The Dresser and he is very appealing as Benedict."
Oh my god, because of a Squash Match Support, I cannot attend the US Talk, which is pretty much the only talk I would want to attend. Great. Now I have to go for the 25 May one, which makes me a very grumpy person at the moment. Not to say there's 2 Invest rehearsals in a week, and 2 Squash match supports in a week. Hello, where's the time I want to spend on quality study. In addition, I can't watch Star Trek after Dance Nite, which makes me even grumpier as I enter slumberland. Let's hope something with H3 crops up.
HURRY, END. I only have 183 more days, it's not funny anymore!

06 May 2009

MOH, please make up your mind.

From the Press Release from MOH - 06 May 2009

"Our Disease Outbreak Response System Alert (DORSCON) status is currently at Orange. However, we are preparing for a progressive step-down of the alert status to Yellow. The new strain of Influenza A (H1N1 2009) seems milder than originally feared and appears to be more like seasonal flu. However as the situation is still evolving, we would need to constantly review and adjust our responses, and be prepared to deal with changing threat."

I CAN'T KEEP UP WITH THESE CHANGING THREATS ANYMORE.

Oh my god, I'm going to tell you what this means:

  • If it's reduced to YELLOW by next Monday, the paranoia was ALL FOR NOTHING. My dear cousin could've gone to US for her internSHIP, I could've gone to US for OM, many people in the world wouldn't have their travelling plans foiled.
  • This would mean that there's a fighting chance to go to US for OM, if we press for it and if the school can relax some of its restrictions, and give opportunities for their students to go overseas and gain a wealth of experience.
  • With all these chaos going on at the moment, I'm going crazy, flaring at my computer, screaming for no apparent reason and am in a state of absolute insanity.

In light-hearted news, Danny's scream for 'Dream On' was just atrocious. Dreadful. Poor. Sounded like a cat infected with the flu. (i HAD to rub it in.)

Left-handed people rock.

Realitymunches hits 50,000 views after close to 50 months!

5 celebrities looking very ridiculous this week: Madonna, Tyra Banks, Christina Aguilera, Lady GaGa (seriously, what is that.) and Rihanna, who makes her first appearance at a public event after getting punched by Chris Brown. Click photo to enlarge.

In other terrifying news:
  • My OM team is the only team from the Singapore contingent that isn't going due to the H1N1 virus. It's not like we were unwilling to go; it's because some people up there decided to cancel all the Raffles trips. Apparently I was given the wrong information: The Ministry merely discouraged travelling to overseas destinations, but they didn't impose a compulsory cancellation of all school trips. I would rather be given the opportunity to go to the US and be given the quarantine order for a week since I would have to study anyway. I don't know if all these precautions are verging on an overdose of paranoia, but this has to stop somewhere before it reaches the point of ridiculousness. To be honest, I am very fed up. More people are dying from the seasonal influenza than this oh-so-scary virus, so why is the world so caught up in this whole saga, where only 16 confirmed cases have been identified worldwide?
  • I empathize with the Guitar people having to cancel their concert; I empathize with the Dance people for having to cut their concerts from 3 to 2, as well as take pains to collate information of the event's attendees, I empathize with teachers for having no say in any decision-making processes lately and yet have to incur the wrath and whining of their frustrated students.
  • I absolutely share the same sentiments with what this video has to offer.
  • Daughtry's first single, 'No Surprise', is out. Don't like it too much at the moment - feel like it's one of those uncatchy mid-tempo songs that won't make the big break. We'll have to see. Trivia: It was 3 years ago (12 May 2006) that Daughtry was voted off idol. Haha, I could remember the trauma.

05 May 2009

It's better than ANTM.

I've been watching 'Make Me A Supermodel 2' for quite a while, and it's really good. Ok, the hosts (Tyson Beckford, Nikki Taylor) may lack the flair that Tyra possesses, and the judges are rather blunt in their critiques, but the contestants as a whole are definitely much stronger than those in ANTM. The plus point is that every episode, the contestants would have to do a catwalk, and isn't that exactly what models have to do almost every single day? It's also great that the winners of reward challenges get to go on go-sees, something which only happens in ANTM once per cycle.
The contestants with the 2 hosts (pretty easy to identify them)

Personal favorites (from left to right): Mountaha, Salome, Jordan and Jonathan. It's down to the Final 7, and Jonathan is pretty much going too win. He's way too good compared to the others. The Adam Lambert equivalent, you could say. You could catch up on the latest episodes here.

Well done Raffles Chorale!

04 May 2009

Oil comes again to please the mouth.

I think I'm going to catch Star Trek. =D

So, just how much have schools been affected by the H1Math, I mean, H1N1 virus?

  • Overseas trips in May/June have been cancelled.
  • No more morning assemblies from tomorrow onwards, till further notice.
  • No more concerts in school till further notice.
  • No house parties will be taking place till further notice (HouseDs are crying)
  • Temperature is to be taken twice a day.
  • Stringent security measures have been put in place.
  • No more PE lessons with immediate effect.

Tragic, eh.

Decided to catch Amazing Race again, after missing (or rather, boycotting) it for 5 episodes. Seriously, would you go to the washroom to pee, knowing that a million bucks is on the line, and that only 30 seconds is what's separating you from the last team? Oh well, Jen and Kisha did just that, and gave the last spot to a very undeserving duo of NFL cheerleaders, who were floundering in the streets of China.

Oh well, they were pretty entertaining at the detour, where they had to pronounce the dishes in Chinese to the chefs. "Fried Chicken" became "Monthly Use Taiwanese Chicken", "Vegetarian Noodles" became "Good Western Heads Lack Fish", "Good Luck Fish" became "Good Doll Basket Drum". This one's the best: "Golden Pork Spare Ribs" became "Light Competition Red Dishes I've Played Before". Kudos to the CBS producers for the smashing translations. The dish that I put under this blog post was supposed to be 'New Taste Beef'. LOL.

Ok, I was kidding about the last bullet point there.

03 May 2009

Hitler Rude Jack meets Julius Caesar [Louis is partially deaf]

Tonight's just one of those nights where I sit in pensive thought, and regret quitting chorale.
I had such great fun with you guys today, even though it was such a short duration spent together. You all never fail to bring me laughter and are always the bunch of cheery and ridiculous people that I've known you for. I mean, while so many people around me - whom I once regarded as such close acquaintances - have just vanished as time passed, you guys have stayed the same, and I feel like I'm still part of this family. What I'm most thankful for is that you all have been so ever welcoming to me, from carolling, to just simple random gatherings like today. Oh man, how I wish I could've just turned back time.
I wish Raffles Chorale the very best for SYF, may you guys get the Gold With Honours. You people can do it.
Man, I can't believe I made that decision a year back.

And here we have the new AWARE exco being given a vote of no confidence. The votes were against them 65-35. Ouch.

01 May 2009

Sizzling This Week (27th Apr - 3rd May 2009)

1) Green Day – Know Your Enemy [Video just premiered on MTV]
2) Paolo Nutini - Candy
3) Katy Perry – Waking Up In Vegas
4) David Cook – Come Back To Me
5) Jamie Cullum – Gran Torino

---

After all the drama on Survivor, Sierra's finally voted off. See some CBS footage on how she breaks down, how Erinn actually praises her and decides not to vote for her (instead giving her vote to Stephen), and how she spends great time on Ponderosa with Tyson and Brendan. And Tyson's seriously a very funny guy.
