The Day of the Davids

Double Literature periods was fantastic. I had Double Economics periods yesterday, and I'm having Double Math periods tomorrow. BFFT. Oh yes, PW sounded frighteningly scary, from the way my teacher's describing it. But at least I'm blessed with fantastic classmates, so I wouldn't mind at all if I'm grouped with anyone. I believe we're all hardworking people, so yes!

Today's episode of Idol featuring the Top 10 Guys were absolutely fantastic, well, the major part of it.

To sum up today's performance night, the Davids + Danny Norriega (i liked his intro video) rocked the show. David Archuleta's rendition of 'Imagine' was incredible, especially when all the spotlight was on him with all the lights dimmed, and his voice just shone throughout the stage. Like what Paula says, he's born for Super Stardom. EXCELLENT vocals. And the girls all went ga-ga over him before he even performed! And there's a Facebook Fanclub of him.

David Hernandez chose a very interesting song, somewhat theatrical of sorts, but it was a new breath of air. And he actually growled really well. I think he's the new Mario Vazquez. David Cook was 'the real rocker with the voice' according to Randy (obviously that Robbie person isn't and he was so desperate to show to people his authenticity as a ROCKERRRR), and he effortlessly sings the song so brilliantly. Very solid performance.

I predict Luke Menard (the one in that acapella band), Jason Yeager (the one who can play 100 musical instruments) and Robbie Carico (the supposedly 'fake rocker'?)

"When you are given some criticism, rather than sulking, you treat it as a challenge. You don't get childish about it, because people do get criticized in real life" - Simon to David Hernandez, obviously an attempt to attack Robbie.

---------------------------------
Alright, I have Maths + Physical Geog Test tomorrow. Lots of last-minute cramming! I'll just get some physical notes printed since it's open book, and I'll just attempt to revise Maths. Attempt's the word.

1 more week! <3

Rockferry

Nothing much going on today. Just know that we saw a lot of Mr Sowden today haha! and singing tonight went along well, and yeah time well spent at the library with serene LOL. =P
all might go well if Cheryl and Guojun manages to appeal successfully and stay in the all-so-wonderful A03A.
So...YAY!

oh, and who cannot forget... HAPPY BIRTHDAY JIAJUN! Remember to feed the Pooh with Hunny ok!

Ocean's Thirteen?

I was horrified by the SMS from Gan this morning:
"Civics today at 8.55am will be at SR6 for those still in A03A. The CSE people and Guojun and Quynh Anh are now in A01C, but Steff is in 1D. Cheryl has transferred to A03B".

I was thinking: What The Hell.

Starting out as the smallest class size within our batch (A03A is 19-strong), I was in fact looking for more intakes after today and didn't even consider the possibility of people leaving our class. But today proved otherwise. While other classes had a significant net gain of new students, we lost 6 people. Cherrie, Cheryl, Steffanie, Qi Wen, Quynh Anh, and Vanessa. GuoJun is trying to appeal to stay with us.

So, the morning totally sucked for me. Mishy, Daveen, Val and I just stared at each other, stunned by the news at the canteen benches. Made a desperate attempt to meet each other as a full class for the last time, and we wondered why everything was so evil to us. Just when I brought my Marks and Spencer Chocs to share with everyone. hmph.

I guess the emo-ness seeped into our Civics lesson, where everyone including the Ex-A03Aers came for our lesson. Mr Sowden was also expressing his shock at our pathetically small class, but I guess nothing much can be changed, due to the fact that those remaining in A03A are those under the Humans Programme, whereas the others weren't.

When it was time for them to go, the atmosphere was just so emotionally-charged, I honestly hated that moment. You could see everyone getting teary (Ok except for some. Boo.) Just when I thought this was such a wonderful class with so different types of people coming together and yet, we were able to establish this chemistry amongst all of us.

Though it has only been a few weeks, but I know I'll miss those left us today. Ok, it sounds as though someone died, but no, I know that this is not the end of new friendships to be forged.

To the people still in A03A, 13 isn't a very bad number. Yes, it's bloody small and that means:
1) It's damn hard to take a quick nap, SMS, or munch something during tutorials.
2) It will be really hilarious to see only 3 PW groups, or as a matter of fact, the prospect of having 3-4 miserable kayaks for our class adventure camp.
3) Our gender ratio is cut! 9 girls, 4 boys.
4) We are definitely the smallest class in our batch, something we should be proud of.
5) It will be super easy to organize class outings and dissaminate information.
-----

09A03A, I love you guys. And I hope they'll do something about it. Nevertheless, it has been hell of a fun 8 weeks with you guys which i'll never forget.
----
On a sidenote, HAPPY BIRTHDAY Marvin, Jun Chang, and Stuart!

Broke No Bones

Oh man, today I was stoning in the library for 3 hours+ before dramafest.

overall, i thought all the plays were very impressive, very value for money haha. My personal favorites were HH's (nabil and anish - two natural stage actors) and MT's play (well done claire!). MR's one was very iconic (all the ensemble things never fail to excite me), but i thought there was a tad too much theatrics, still a goodjob to bryan and karliang! gj to joseph for BW and Sadikin and the BB cast/crew as well!

gonna be busy with chorale, OMT meeting, and the recording of the song for the album tmr lol. this essentially leaves me with sunday to brush up my maths and geog!

21 February 2008

So happy together.

Ok ah, this is truly sincerely my honest genuine opinion.
but i thought today's O2 was a tad too boring for me. maybe coz we already had one orientation, so for us oldfolks it was somewhat repeating the motion all over again, except with the new intakers (li ting and yi ting!)

understand entirely that the j2s must've been really really busy over the past few wks catching up on their studies and gearing themselves for their 'A's, i guess they didn't really had much time to prepare O2 as much as they did for O1. but yeah all the OGLs (esp mandy and jerald) deserve a thumbs-up! xin ku ni men le! everyone really enjoyed the past few weeks thoroughly and i cant imagine what life would be like from next wk onwards with all the rubbish tests and boring lectures/tutorials. grrr.

ok so for today, the house dance was OMG so confusing, and the taitais and towkays totally malu-ed ourselves in front of BBians LOL. but ppl said i danced damn enthu-lly, so i guess that goes both sides? after everyone bored themselves from the dance, we headed to Holland Village to complete some tasks as an OG (i.e playing Seven-Up and drinking Michael Jackson as a forfeit which seemed more like a reward haha!, as well as eating Katong Laksa and attempt to describe how fabulous it is and how it's identical to the Rafflesian Spirit, which marvin and soonyoong crapped it out well for us). Had lunch at the air-conditioned food court and took photos of ppl sleeping (not only soonyoong, but also someone who slept in the middle on the MPH floor *HINTS HINTS* haha!!!!!!!!)

ok, that sums up the day. and we spent almost $1.80 of transportation costs to and fro bishan and holland v. after that, we did batch dance (which i miraculously could remember 90% of the dance steps, i'm so proud of myself) and sang batch song. and one-third of the OG went to the playground to have a spinning good time, so much so that 2 girls got so groggy after woosheng spun them on the merry-go-round so furiously. poor thing! i hope barney and yvonne are feeling un-motion-sick now. after that, went to macs where we ate fries nonstop and camped there for 2-3 hours (coz jinsei came along and entertained the girls for almost an hour) before going home.

------------------------------
The top 12 girls performed today! Some girls were really impressive, so i shall name the 5 i thought were good good good good good: Syesha Mercado (The high note was WOAH.), Ramiele Malubay (for Asians! She was terrific!), Asia'h Epperson (very interesting high register, yet pleasant to hear), Amanda Overmyer (One of the most memorable performances), and Carly Smithson (despite the controversy and her flu, she still performed well)

Some other good performances came from Alaina Whitaker (is it just me or is she a replica of Carrie Underwood?!??!), Alexandrea Lushington, and Brooke White (who sang the Carlsberg song again).

People who delivered lacklustre performances (i.e could've done better) were Kristy Lee Cook (She was so much better in Amazing Grace), Joanne Bargella (looked so powerhouse, but I thought the other black girls were 1000 times better), Kady Malloy (She was so much better impersonating Britney, it's ironic.) and Amy Davis (She kept scooping!!)
------------

Ok, i guess i'd have to hardcore mug soon as MATHS TEST IS COMING UP. and i DON'T WANT TO FAIL MY FIRST TEST.

20 February 2008

making up for those days.

alright, i haven't really been blogging religiously, thanks to a really hectic schedule of late! but i think the busy-ness was worth it, because i've enjoyed every single minute over the past week.

so, first things first. valentine's day! i cant believe this simple 'i-love-you' event could actually be so overhyped! but it was all in good fun, i guess? haha, i was delighted receiving flowers, chocolates, sweets, random notes, gifts, and others on the 14th feb.

the 15th feb was OF COURSE, TAKE 5 : total defence day, CNY celebrations, talentime finals, amazing race, duathlon, and almost anything else you can think of -- the action at Pasir Ris Park was phenomenal. it was particularly hilarious that half of 09A03A (which consists of almost all geog'ers except gan) COULDN'T REACH OUR DESTINATION IN TIME, and we were lost at aloha loyang and had to walk to the extreme end of the park to reach our arrival point. felt damn losers, thank god i brought some chicken biscuits to munch HAHA.

our class relived childmood memories, manuevering through spider webs, sitting on swings and random playground structures, camwhoring here and there, (esp me, thanks to michy's great camera, sorry la, long time no exposure to cameras already) crashing into people's photo, playing the warped version of scrabble which the word expert owned everyone at (you know who), and also watching talentime performances. kinda enjoyed how everyone had their own liberty to do whatever they wanted during those 5 hours, some people just sat on picnic mats and played bridge the whole day long.

we stayed a little while longer to attempt practising our humanz performance (which culminated in random outbursts of Singapore Town, Spongebob Squarepants, and If I Were Gay LOL absolutely delightful) before heading to White Sands to have lunch before heading to my house to dress up for Humanz Party, as you can see in the random photos below. THe theme for the party was The Great Gatsby: The 20s, so that's why i'm wearing some white-black outfit, and michy thinks i look like a lost rock-musician-cum-banker. interesting occupation. so it was a night of partying and chattering and stoning at Pandan Valley before we parted ways.

<09a03a,>

16th Feb was Chorale Day which started early in the morning and I was all sleepy and drowsy, groggy, tired, but somehow the singing made me all energized again, and I went to wenjians house to do OM project, with michelle, yuzhou, olly and zhiwei! i was damn stupid. I took a bus from school, then i overshot at the bus stop which i was supposed to alight; i took a bus back, and i OVERSHOT AGAIN, so i felt like a total idiot desperately seeking to find wenjian before he brought me to his house LOL. the OMT team continued with our scripts, and we had a lot of fun, esp hearing how lousy mariah's first single in her album E=MC2 was. TERRIBLE.

17th Feb was the day where I relaxed and indulged in solitude. Haha, alright, not really. Parents bought back a great platter of western food which was goodd, and I had to leave to Woosheng's house for a mini-OG CNY gathering! wooshengs brother was cute-but-annoying, and his mum was really nice to treat us to good food, as well as angpows =DDD. played an unfinished round of monopoly, mahjong and just spent time chit-chatting.

18th Feb was the Monday which everyone dreaded, after all the fun we had over the weekend! Luckily for us, we had protected time! so just hanged around at canteen benches, and 4 boring tutorials preceded. The only consolation of that day was during GP TUTORIAL, where i totally scored 8/8 for my summary question for the celebrities compre passage, SO HAPPY PLEASE! but i died for my first econs essay, like 11/25. damn sad. boohoo.

19th Feb, yetserday, was THE DAY. (ok, it's no longer yesterday, im typing this at 00:08 on 21st Feb, which is YIHAO's BIRTHDAY HAPPY BIRTHDAY as well as O2 ORIENTATION!) on 19th feb, I had COUNCIL INTERVIEW. all the lectures that day didn't really bother me, coz i was really looking forward, both in anxiety and anticipation for the interview. i had to tell myself to stay focused during the interview and just be confidence and deliver well. i guessed the preparation worked, and i thought i didn't let myself down for the interview. so, with regards to the result, i'm hoping for the best, and i BELIEVE THIS IS THE BEGINNING OF A VERY VERY ENRICHING JOURNEY TO COME! after that, i went to focus with jj who came back from adventure camp, and we ran through our songs, and reached home super late. yeah, some days i might reach home real late, but i guess looking back on these days, i feel really satisfied and proud of myself that i've done so much in such a small timeframe. =)

20th Feb, YESTERDAY (since it's 21st now), day went pretty normal. did the insanely difficult compre passage in class, rushed through maths tutorial during tutorial haha, and frisbeed our way during PE. oh, not forgetting the funny movie version of 'all quiet on the western front' played during Lit -- the acting was really bad. 'crawl forward, lie down, (laughs)' - Himmelstoss. LOL. After lessons, went to accompany the new 2nd intakers for orientation!!!! ice-breakers were really fun haha, and OMG mingyi came to RJ, so glad she made the right choice! HAHA ok ignore that. the OComm went through the things that we went thru during our orientation (i.e batch dance, batch song, cheers, house system briefing, institution anthem and more), and then i left for chorale!

went home to catch AMERICAN IDOL TOP 24! i thought most of the guys were good, i think there were more distinct personalities in comparison to the previous seasons, but some of them didn't quite deliver well.

My personal thoughts!
Top Flight: Michael Johns (An Australian Rocker who sang 'Light My Fire' superbly), David Cook (Another rock who did the Carlsberg song, delivering a very different rendition), Jason Castro (First guy who played the guitar during the Piano Show), and Danny Noriega (A very sporting individual who did 'Jailhouse Rock' impressively, though Simon didn't like it, and Danny's personality shone through amongst the rest)
Middle Flight: David Hernandez (very good voice, but should've chosen a different song!!), David Archuleta (My personal favorite though he didn't do well this time -- he cracked -- but he's still a fan favorite), Colton Berry and Chikezie Eze.
Bottom Flight: Robbie Carico (Another Bucky Covington), Jason Yeager (Somewhat Boring), Luke Menard (Kept boasting on how he believes he'll win the competition but he didn't really deliver the goods) and Garrett Haley (He actually has a good vocal range, but his song was just B-O-R-I-N-G, so it was a pity.)
I wouldn't mind any of the people in the bottom flight to get eliminated.
SO, that sums up what happened during the past week! All the best to those remaining who're going for Council Interviews!

Hollywood's Not America

my camera resolution seems rather sucky today, i think the lenses are screwy.
anyway, today's performance at the SIM charity event was rather interesting. jiajun totally shocked me and the 4 choristers (geof, joseph, fried and yongfeng) when we finally knew we were performing for some Campus Superstar Charity Concert. LOL. but it was all ok lah, our performances didn't really screwed up. had fun!
this guy's called David Archuleta, and he's only 16. Here's him singing 'Heaven' and I think he's one of the best <17'ers>

12 February 2008

Supernatural Superserious

I'm on cloud nine on this night, probably coz i did well for singing lessons tonight. changed my style successfully after many failed attempts, and so yay!!!

i'm feeling bad for not being involved in the valentine's thing for BB!!! hope i can be of use tomorrow though. =)

performing for a charity event at SIM tomorrow along with jj, hope we don't screw up man! haha!

11 February 2008

The Grammys

Ahh. How can 'Rehab' win Record of the Year AND Song of the Year instead of 'Umbrella'!!! That is damn ridiculous! Ok, but at least Amy won Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for 'Rehab' again, and also Best Pop Vocal Album.

'Makes Me Wonder' defeated 'Home' to grab Best Pop Performance by a Group or Duo. Pop Collaboration went to some unknown, damn pissed. Mika lost his sole nomination to Justin's LoveStoned for Best Dance Recording.

Oh, but I'm damn happy that Icky Thump won, totally trashed Nickelback!!!!! They also won for Best Alternative Album, beating Lily Allen and Bjork. Daughtry went home empty handed, which is a total waste considering they had so many nominations, losing Best Rock Album to Foo Fighters.

No One won best R & B Song. Stronger won Best Rap Solo Performance. Oh yes, Umbrella won Best Rap/Sung Collaboration. Carrie wins Best Country Female Vocal Performance and Best Country Song. Mark Ronson won BEST PRODUCER, defeating Timbaland!

Barack Obama (LOL) won a Grammy for Best Spoken Word Album, and I'm laughing very hard. Oh, Hairspray, Across the Universe and Dreamgirls OST ALL LOST TO some random Beatles album for Best Compilation Soundtrack, hows that.

09 February 2008

Gong Xi Fa Cai

Ok, in short, CNY was fun. besides collecting all the hongbaos, managed to see a lot of small adorable kids running around. a great break from the mundane school life.

Chorale Camp

alright, i just got the photos from the camp, thats why i'm publishing this post only now. =D

Meestertoh-ers: geetha, quanquan, charmaine, julian, joash, joseph, yinghin, huiyi, michelle and myself!

started with ice-breakers. there was one game where we were given a phrase of lyrics from one song, and attempt to pair that phrase with someone else's phrase.

E.g And when I touch you I feel happy, inside will have to find....
It's such a feeling that my love, I can't hide. and yeah, my partner was Lionel.

We had night games after dinner, where we had to run around campus to obtain as many cards and clues by the end of 1+ hours, and try to form combinations to earn the highest points. of course, during our way, we had to run away from devouring monsters (in this case, wen di) if we didn't want to lose our cards.

washed up, and went to some nvr-b4-seen places in rj with taiboon lionel and readon. they were rather interesting sights. so it was getting late and we went to sleep after much talking. =)
----------------------------

woke up feeling pretty much aching in the shoulders and legs (thnx to the sit-and-reach exercise at night, damn pain la), but wasted no time and began with morning games, which included a passing relay, cracker-eating challenge, and had a Jacob's Ladder (which i had to run against the same person who made my legs damn pain, and of course i kept losing to him as his 2.4 timing is 10+ which he considers it to be slow haha!!!)

after breakfast, and after finale preparations, and after prac, we went to BOTANICAL GARDENS! ok, basically the route which we had was super suay.

we started at A, and our first station was at B, and our 2nd C, and so on. this was our route.

A..........................>>......................>>..........................>>........................>>............................B
C..........................<<......................<<...........................<<.......................<<............................B C...............>>.............D...............>>................E...............>>...............F............>>............END

ok, so in essence, we had a bad route. but of course, the whole activity was fun in general!! we had to do chereo to 'Bring it all Back' - S Club 7, huiyi had to blindfold herself and manuoevre around the grass patch to find stuff (and she was really good), we had to play taboo (where of course my prowness in taboo helped), had to had telepathy in our music taste, and also fetch water for people, and of course, we had to share umbrellas like romantic couples on a saturday afternoon.

we went back to school, and had final prepations for talentime b4 awaiting finale night!
finale night was FABULOUS. started off with the 5 grps' performance (and of course julian saved our day HAHA), and the J2s put up a MARVELLOUS-FANTASTIC-OMG-THAT-WAS-DAMN-GOOD performance (i loved the last part of the performance), and most importantly the initation segment!

it was a wonderful camp. this makes it even harder for me to make a choice. *SCREAMS*

Nine in the Afternoon

To kick things off, here's Paula Abdul's live performance at the pre-game Superbowl, lip-synching to her latest single 'Dance Like There's No Tomorrow'. Thought it was not a bad job, considering she's like 40+ and she hasn't done this in a while haha.

School today was absolutely boring. Had Econs for the first block, and preceded with 3 free periods before GP. and it was home sweet home. i feel uneventful. =(
