do you like my style?

oh well, didn't get into the final 3 of talentime. congrats to those who got in! for me, there's always next year! haha.. yeah was kinda disappointed when they announced in the morning, but after 3 periods, the sadness somewhat faded away, and it was time to move on. life in rj is so fast-paced, you have little time to dwell over stuff.

so today was a crazy day, with 5 periods nonstop in the morning, the most dreary one being maths lecture, where the teachers didn't seem too pleased. indeed, it's tough being a maths lecturer. damn tough. then went to CL6 for council nominations, where 09A03A showed our class' tight bonding. HAHA...

PE today again was super-duper-extremely-incredibly tiring, as we had to run around campus, and climb up/down stairs like mad people. i'm going for singing later, and it doesn't really help that i have choir camp from tmr till saturday night. oh man, give a me a break. but IT'S ALL WORTH IT! =D

btw, happy 17th birthday huihui!

30 January 2008

take a bow

thanks to all those who took your precious time off to come support me! hope i didn't disappoint! watched othello today. pe was crazy, ran 2.4km (11:14), did SBJ (248cm), and pull-ups (4). i just love this cec council logo done by kengchee for the year 2008. well done!

btw, this is what i saw in 'my paper', you know, the newspaper.
oh yeah, HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALARIC!

A & E

alright, i shall use a different font today.
there was protected time today, so i reached school around 9. had assembly at the indoor sports hall, where the AV very inventively gave us live satellite feed of the proceedings at MPH.

learnt how to write a good econs essay using the 6Ds. (define, diagrams, discuss, distinguish x 2, draw conclusion!) lit tutorial today was fruitful, and i got to read this 2-page long poem with all the cheem words, almost drove me nuts.

read almost one-third of 'All quiet on the Western Front' during the 2 free periods, before heading for GP where we discussed about Paris' provocate Heiress advert, and of course listening to Steffy's lovable accent. LOL.

Had the last Student Devt period today, meaning we're moving on to PW, which stinks! =(

-------
on a sidenote, i don't like the notion of leaving school early nowadays. leaving school before 5pm makes me feel like i'm missing out on something! so well, to store time, i decided to cut my hair. and now, i shall complete the following by wednesday: finish tnc exercise, mug geog notes, finish 'AQOTWF', finish econs essay, complete maths tutorial, and decipher the lit poem. and most importantly, get ready for talenttime.

25 January 2008

Life is tough!

I do get excited easily over things recently.

At 2pm, i was like so damn kancheong awaiting for the talenttime results. i think my heart was beating faster as compared to when i got my HCL marks yesterday, as well as for humans interview LOL. then i went to the notice board and OMG, i was one of the 8 semi-finalists!
*gasps*
---------------------------------------------
ANNOUNCEMENT: I'll be performing at the canteen on Wednesday along with the 7 other semi-finalists! Do lend me your support and help spread the word ok! This will be crucial because purely votes determine who proceeds to the finals! So, share some love and ill return you with 10 times of my love! =D
---------------------------------------------
so i was going crazy for a teeny bit, and composed myself again before meeting up with jiajun for dramafeste audition lol. super funny @ how we had to make a transition from reciting a totally-abstract text to some local singlish text. then went for BLYC meeting before heading back to canteen to meet some of the og peeps. played uno stacko, which we made a whole lot of noise until 6+, where we finally went for dinner @ pizza hut! had crayfish spaghetti and we spent a totally long time tallying the bill. Going Dutch is rather mind-boggling.
----------------------------------------------
i have submitted my self-nomination form for council. but of course, a little bit of peer nominations would be very much beneficial too! *this is sooooo not a hint*
hoping for the best, and i really wish i can be part of this student organization.

alright, back to work. i realized my load of homework has been carried forward for the past 2 weeks, and the deadline's drawing closer but i'm still in the procrastinating mood. burning midnight oil is NOT good. i better start work tomorrow and get my brain cells working!!

hope everyone out here play hard and mug hard too ok! but not too hard of course. =D (P.S and to those who are still disappointed over yr results, don't brood over it yeah! the most impt thing now is to stay strong and work even harder to prove yourself that you can do it!)

24 January 2008

Different people, different expectations.

today was a mentally demanding day. started off with the humans interview, which i seriously hoped i did well. whether i get it or not, it was a great experience.

the highlight of the day was definitely the release of 'o' lvl results. i'm pretty damned happy with the A2 that i have for HCL. surprisingly, some people who were expected to get A1/A2s didn't manage to achieve a good result. the overall batch result wasn't too good either, but well at least we still scored decent as a whole. so proud of my cousins melodie and amanda, and also fellow OG peeps shuohan, rashmi!

to those who didn't fare too well, i know it sucks, especially when you face the chances of not staying in your desired JC. in all fairness, i guess the jcs will take review each individual's performance on a case-by-case basis. have faith in yourself, make an appeal (theres nothing to lose), and you'll definitely stay in the rafflesian family. we'll be there for you. and i really hope you guys can make it, and i believe it.

23 January 2008

where did the love go, lady?

its good that they helped me decide what are my finalized ccas. so... thank you jazz for rejecting me!
-------

ok, humans interview and release of higher chinese results both taking place tmr. this is driving me nuts! i need the world's luck!
----

Oh yeah, and on a sidenote, i'm intending to join council. Just wondering if anyone would like to campaign with me should i make it past the interviews? =D

21 January 2008

my eggs are all in one miserable basket.

i strongly believe council elections should be brought forward.
the prospect of getting into jazz club is limited by it now, and i feel like pulling my hair out.
AHHHHHH!

2) Regeneration – Pat Barker
I couldn't find the other three books.

19 January 2008

pocketful of sunshine

Ok, I'm sooo going to enrich myself over the weekends. music-wise and current-affairs-wise, in preparations for the interview. this is truly overwhelming haha.

18 January 2008

The girl from Ipanema

I promise I'll try and read up about Literature and some significant events that occurred from the 16th-20th century, because I'm pretty puzzled by the end of each Lit lesson. Geog Lecture proved its limited relevance, as i seriously felt that I could learn it more efficiently if i just read from the notes instead of listening to the lecture. it's not the lecturer's fault, it's just that i feel the reading materials are already so sufficient!

We're finally progressing by a fair bit for econs!! and i think it's the subject that's getting me excited out of all the subs. Day ended with geog tutorial, and watched how the asian people got exploited by shoemakers in the past, with allegations that a certain shoe company was to be held responsible for these human rights violations.

of course, in between lessons, A03A were often together in the canteen, either mugging/reading/eating. well, i usually choose the 3rd option.

before bbq (i skipped OMG), went to j8 with wenjian joel wangye and jiawei to get yuzhou's presents (an eeyore soft toy and a highly interesting card). and the highlight of the day besides yuzhou's birthday (HAPPY BIRTHDAY YUZHOU!) was the bbq!

food was considerably good, and the atmosphere was also kinda bustling, think the BB exco did a great jobbbb. =) oh yeah, and on a sidenote, i think i did well for the BLYC interview. hope i can get in la. i feel so failure having not gotten into danceS, haha!

Jazz you and me

Louis, along with 6 other fantastic Rafflesians, is joining this event called Odyssey of the Mind, which is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college. Kids apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics. They then bring their solutions to competition on the local, state, and World level. Thousands of teams from throughout the U.S. and from about 25 other countries participate in the program.
Louis felt humiliated by the GP quiz too, because he could barely answer half of the trivia questions. He is, however, very astounded by the fact that he only got 3 questions wrong for the Algebra quiz, a highly unreflective result of my mathematical abilities. But well, this could be the revival of my aptitude for the subject! WOOO!
Louis also is very pissed that he had to run 8 rounds for PE today, which totals up to 3.2km, which is way more than the actual NAPFA item. And he had to run 8 rounds because of some uncooperative people who weren't honest and lied to the teacher that they ran 4 laps, where they had only ran 3. That's why we had to run the extra 4. And nope, the dishonest people are not from 09A03A.
Finally, Louis attended the Jazz workshop today, and really hopes to enter Jazz Club because it seems really fascinating and enjoyable. And he is in need of a CCA confirmation, because right now, he only has HISSOC and RECAS. Boon Lay Youth Club interview's on Friday, hope I can seize that opportunity too. And he is apologetic if he gave certain people unwanted attention. He didn't mean it!
Alright, he's off to do his Maths Tutorials now. LOUIS LOVES MATHS! <3

15 January 2008

This is a public exclamation.

OMG.

ok moving on to less mind-boggling topics.
I love Maths.
"Alright, so... you take this equation, no, it's not an equation, it's an EXPRESSION. Ok, alright, yes, so here in this case, yes, you use differentiation, and ACTUALLY you can use other methods, but, ok, yes, alright, actually let's just use differentiation... Ok assuming when the x is negative, it's looks like you're sad and you're frowning."

Alright. Yes. Ok.

Modern!

I liked today's morning assembly. I think our principal is fantastic in that she can relate to us very well! And i'm particularly impressed considering Mrs Lim is just as new as us to this campus! Economics was next, and we did this treasure hunt thing at the comp. lab, and wow, there's definitely a lot to learn for econs. Lit left me puzzled as usual with the very intersting worksheet, so that's that.

Stoned at the canteen for 2 periods straight, after queueing at stalls with really long queues, and i ended up eating katsudon which wasnt very nice. GP lesson wasn't much of a consolation, considering we had to do a diagnostic essay, which pretty much wasn't reflective of my standards coz my brain wasn't working and i wrote an essay full of nonsense.

and the day ended with the student development talk, which is reminiscent to those i had in RI? yawn. oh, but the highlight for the day's definitely RJ Dance auditions. ok, i dont give a damn if i get in or not (though i wouldn't mind receiving a call hha!), but frankly speaking, the dances are pretty hard to learn boy! There's like hip-hop where you had to like crump to the beat, there was broadway where you had to dance to you cant stop the beat (of which the dance moves i often mixed up with the batch dance's) and of course the one i was best at: Modern Dance. WEEE. So I shall so predict 4 people which are definite shoo-ins: Jon, Brian, Leroy and Seng Henk. I've placed my bets.

AHHH, so jj and i rushed to focus music for singing! well, only i sang. haha! and feihui laoshi keeps saying i have the choir voice. which means, if i essentially want to get rid of my choral singing technique, i have to quit chorale. and i'm highly tempted to now. but i'm still open to options. aiyah i'm confused now la. i received emails from HISSOC and Jazz Club, of which the latter's holding a workshop on wednesday and auditions on FRIDAY! and i have to learn girl from Ipanema.

Breakin' Dishes

Ok, so visited harith in the morning along with samuel. so glad he's fine now, cheery and all and even drinking slurpee and playing psp. was somewhat worried for him initially! hope he gets well soon!

alright, so after accompanying samuel for lunch at subway and taking the wrong shuttle buses in the NUS campus, we finally decided to hail a taxi to the nearby buona vista station, where we parted ways and i met up with fellow BB'08ers for 3 games of bowling! and jerald (or rather, federer) scored a 162! and edlyn couldn't come because her thumb was soring. and i only managed a 97, 116, and 130 for the 3 games. lousy. =( besides bowling, we played at the exciting arcade machine, the one where you have to smack the 3 buttons repeatedly until your hands get super pain.)
so took a grp photo as can be seen above and soon yoong's parents very kindly fetched us to the nearby bus stop as it was raining. we then had dinner at mos burger and then headed home! well, and i'm extremely flabbergasted by the surge of incoming mails (jazz audition, talentime audition, sch announcements, mr sowden's mails, facebook notifications, class notices). INSANE.
oh and O-level results are released on 18th Jan. WISH EVERYONE THE BEST OF LUCK. wish those in my OG who came in thru 'o's the VERY VERY BEST OF LUCK TOO!

11 January 2008

Thinker, Leader, Pineapple

its fun for to just stone at town and then see other OGs celebrating other people's birthdays. anyway, CV today was quite dreary i felt, though i'm beginning to like my class. great individuals.

got the econs notes, gp notes, and headed for OG lunch at food junction. somehow i'm beginning to feel out of the loop, and frankly i don't know is it just me. or perhaps i'm just not feeling in the mood today!! alright, so shawn, toonwei, fann, soonyoong and myself decided to participate in OMG (captain's ball) at the amphi.

played only one game, and then hung around with huihui and some other ppl in the canteen before heading off with jj and most of her og friends and soonyoong to LT2 for the Jack and Rozz concert. i personally felt the female jazz singers were generally great, and most of the rock bands guitar ppl were rather solid. so had pepper LUNCH for DINNER with BB'02 lol. took train with jj sikai amy and pinhong.

and chris managed to successfully psycho me to take choir for the first few provisional weeks!!! but well, i guess the circumstances i'm in now's pretty good and at least, some people understand the situation i'm in. so yay.

So, in this case..

the only lecture we had today was maths, which ended up in dreary boredom. and for preparations, the class of 09A03A decided to do some self-revision at the canteen before lesson started! felt so mugger lah, but seriously it was fun doing that. haha!

so elected treasurer, and then went to RI compounds with bryan after spending some them with him and a few other ppl at RJ canteen, where we ended up in RI canteen hanging out with Alaric's OG. somehow or another, we got freaking bored to move elsewhere so we ended up playing Risk courtesy of the RIPB's Board Games.

came back so late like 12am, coz jiajun and i just had singing lessons. well, now its the 2 of us from rj. i guess we're pretty much on our own now. just hope the decision she made wasn't an impulsive one and i hope she knows what she's doing. =)

09 January 2008

GHOTI is pronounced as FISH

1) i realized a lot of people are joining only a few specific ccas.
2) i realized i'm in stage 10 paranoia with regards to cca choices.
3) i realized that some people who are deserving of the humans scholarship didn't even get the provisional approval.
4) i realized that i need to do a lot of catching up on Literature.
5) i realized that the testimonial understands me better than i do.

keep on reali(SING)?

08 January 2008

Left you a space in my heart

i guessed if i had spent some time blogging after i reached home yesterday, this would have been an emo post. but now, i'm not feeling that emo anymore, because a new chapter in RJ has unfolded and before i can reminiscence about orientation, i'm already flooded by lectures and tutorials. as such, i'll attempt to recount the events that happened yesterday.

So, BB'08 had a very brief rehearsal at Raja Block Foyer, to much failure haha. We subsequently had a very intense activity: The Release of J1 Civics Tutorial Groups!!
Alright, so I'm in 09A03A, what an interesting class number haha. I realized I was in a different class from Daniel and Guowei and Edlyn, so I felt pretty much doomed.

Stepped into the classroom, and i saw vanessa! hahah! so interesting please, like pri sch classmates reuniting after 4 years. then i saw qiwen, sebestian, kennethwee, and yuneng. on the girls side, i haven't got to know everyone yet, but as of now, i know there are people like daveen, sherry (hope i spelt it the right way), claire, stephanie, lin tong, zhen'er, 2 michelles (tan and chan!), phuy an (omg i know i spelt this wrongly and i so have to clarify with her tomorrow), farhanah, and a few more great people. my civics tutor is mr sowden, and he's a really fantastic econs teacher too!

the day preceded with war games, including pacman (soonyoongs hands almost died while i kept on screaming), uprising (so lame), the peg game where the girls chased the guys until we almost died, and the great wall game at the field (which we couldn't play because it started pouring). So, overall, for IHC, Buckle-Buckley came in 3rd! 2 positions short of first only.

After our surprising better-than-expected audition, we had around 2 hours to waste, so some ppl played soccer, while some stoned around and played card games. And finally O'Nite began, and we were donned in our pink shirts and fanciful hairbands (mine was braided so nicely). The programme was pretty touching, with some perforamnces by OGLs and who can't forget the amazing crossdress performance by the BW OG. (well done serene!) Also did some crazy mixes of the batch dance.

Everyone finally headed to the parade square for the finale, where the setup was really amazing, with all the lightings, mannequins and posters looking so impressive. the best part was obviously the lighting of our orientation theme: T'Sparanza. It was truly an emotional day, and i guess that signals the start of a new life.

---------------------
School today was fun, getting to know a bit more of my classmates, having recess with them and talking to them, and of course telling each other that MATHS ROCKS! all in all, it was great fun.
had lunch at yoshi with some BB'08ers, and of course the gossip resumes. and girls, i'm not bitchy! i'm just being inquisitive as a highly concerned towkay and i care for your welfare as it is of utmost importance. =D

05 January 2008

04 January 2008

Orientation can be the best or worst days of your JC life.

Well, awoke this morning with much anticipation for the day's programme, including the highly-awaited External Activity (EA) at Sentosa (which they put Secret in the camp booklet. that's like so hush-hush HAHA.) So it all began with houses trying to outcheer each other, followed by some recitation of school cheers and revision of the school anthem.

The most fabulous part obviously is the batch dance teaching! learnt the entire dance today. my great dance partner benita and i are doing fine now, able to do the twirls and swirls and hand-holding things successfully without entangling ourselves. it was hilarious to watch some people looking horrendously clumsy for the routines LOL. but well, it's all jolly good ol' fun.

So the main event for the day was of course EA. Started off by finding a colored cards that corresponds to our house colors around campus. we took freaking long but finally managed to find one of HH's one, and managed to trade it with a HH OG which had our colored card. so after all the frenzy, we headed to J8 Food Junction for lunch (i had pepper steak. yay) before proceeding to harbourfront MRT.

after taking the jerky monorail, we did our first task at sentosa, which was to randomly sing old macdonald's to a group of ppl. well, our grp of ppl consisted of two japanese taitais who knew little english -- all the better. we played some random games, sang some songs, cheered for no reason while waiting for our turn at stations or while waiting for the rain to stop.

ok basically the day consisted of nothing but rain and waiting, rain and waiting, and we unknowingly reached tanjung beach. ohh, and this was when the sky decided to be super duper evil to the OGLs and the OGs, so it decided to pour like no one's business (as if raining for the entire december wasn't enough) and everyone was hiding under umbrellas and pavillions.

after the uneventful hour, we went back to vivo. but bb'08 had a long debrief with mandy. well, i guess we did a great job in completing our tasks so quickly and making decisions rather swiftly. the problem, however, is that we're not bonded enough. often or not, it's girls on one side, guys on the other, with me trying to bridge the gap. as usual. so sad that people who aren't making the effort to know ppl of the opposite gender are calling me 'taitai'.

well, as far as i'm concerned, if ppl are going to continue showing their disinterest, then i guses life is going to suck for them for the next 2 years and honestly, that's just too bad if you don't wish to take the effort to socialize. like what the OGLs have said from day one, be open-minded and step out of your comfort zone. no one's gonna laugh at you.

as much as some of us have put our heart and soul in this orientation, some in the grp haven't and seems to not even be giving two hoots about something which the seniors, too, have put their 100% in. and it sucks to see things going this way. i'm sorry guys today for that sudden rush of emotions, because i really hope in the coming monday that it isn't the end of what could be an awesome beginning.

i guess after that enlightening session, people became more open-minded and that really was encouraging and i felt heartened once again. on a bright note, our day ended with a dinner and discussions for our performance audition and our fashion parade! to everyone: BE PREPARED FOR HOT PINK! oh, and the OGs at the open area at vivo today were highly entertained by 5 ahlians/ahbengs who were attempting to mock us, but pretty much failed in doing so. i guess the Ayam Brand Curry Tuna which the ahlian wanted to offer us could easily outsmart her.

ok, and this is a public announcement for BB'08ers.
What? Rehearsal for Audition + Making of our food Recipes
When? 10.30am, Sunday 6th January
Where? Clementi MRT Control Station > My house > Soon Yoong's house at 1pm

03 January 2008

OMG = One Month of Games

today's activities were full of fun. started off with the IHC opening, where all the houses were showing off how powerful they were, but of course BB provided the best statistical evidence with 3 years of championship titles under our belt, so let's 'Say WOAHH... It's hot in here, there must be some BB in the atmosphere!' i thought the beatboxing by the HH guy was cool, so was the BB dancer!

the day went ahead with Station Games, where T'uvwxyz showed our formidability, winning 4 of the 5 stations!!! too bad we weren't one of the fastest teams to reach the MPH in time, but well, we played it with integrity and most importantly, we had great fun haha! (esp. melting the ice where everyone went pretty unglam including jerald LOL). aft that, i was elected tau-geh whilst shinyi was chosen as the taitai (i was that close to getting taitai. damn. HAHA. all because of the forfeit prior to that, where we were doing the highly lame rock-star,porn-star, ballerina challenge. oh, its a fun game.)

after lunch, we had house meetings! it provided some info and background abt BB itself, and of course its upcoming events etc. we also played the mass squirrel-tree-earthquake game @ the indoor sports hall (this hall is super pretty, but its super stuffy too.)

oh and the afternoon consisted of Batch Dance Teaching and Batch Song Teaching! loved how they incorporated a few songs into the batch dance like You Can't Stop the BEATTTTT!! <3
and of course the J2s showed their OGL dance and their previous batch dance to us. and some of the J2s surprisingly CAN dance. haha! Batch Song was written by Eng How, and though the tune's simple, but it's nice how the batch song sounds so acoustical -- it has the personal touch.

BB08'ers were tired and some needed to go home, so we dispersed after dismissal. and i ended the day by having dinner with BB'02 (jj, jiawei & groupies) at the open area at J8.

fantastic day! and it's the release of civics tutorial groups tomorrow. and i'm praying.... praying....SO PRAYING FOR THE BEST. hope i get edlyn, guowei, daniel in my class man...

02 January 2008

First Day @ RJ

adeline, i give you the photo tomorrow ok? i'm super tired now lol.

anyway, first day at rj today was fantastic! it started with everyone wearing their sec sch uni, gathering in the multi-purpose hall. the day preceded with a very simple but deliberate welcoming ceremony, and the new principal made her opening address. was rather impressed with her simple yet effective analogy by using this magic ball that grew bigger and bigger LOL.

so BB08: T'uvwxyz was our group name. and the great people in the group consists of:
louis. soonyoong. marvin. jeremy. woosheng. yihao. toonwei. zenian. joel. benita. samantha. sherry. yvonne. shinyi. nancy. barbara. grace. fann. edlyn. shawn. rashmi. shuohan.
not forgetting the two great OGLs jerald and amanda! =)

ok so the day started off pretty segregated. guys at one side, girls at the other side. double whacko attempted to break the gender barrier LOL. played some other icebreakers, and we got ready for lunch. had delivered pizzas to eat!

following that, we changed into PE and we had our first random game: the limbo game where almost everyone cheated at the last phase. the bar was set at like freaking low! okok throughout the next few hours, we did house cheers, we did unite cheers, learnt more about the school, and most importantly getting to know one another. oh yeah, and of course, who can forget the rain dance? LOL. some ppl complained about getting sucky partners, but i hope benita doesn't mind me HAHA. !!!

so overall, it was a great day. after dismissal, we stoned at the amphitheatre and finally broke the ice as we initiated a few games of our own like concentration and "I Never..." (the game where woosheng drank a lot and some people drank the pepsi for no reason.) Ended the day with Captain's ball and lastly, OG Dinner at Thompson Plaza!

Looking forward to Day 2!

01 January 2008

Happy New 2008!

ok right now i'm extremely tired. just came back from the McDonalds at West Coast Park.

the last day of 2007 was definitely a memorable one. haha met up with some of the 4J peeps at harborfront MRT which were flooding with throngs of homo sapiens and crowd control people, so we headed for the food court at vivo. took like years to discuss what we were gonna do after that, and so we decided to spend our last few hours of the year sitting at some random grass patch at the open area outside vivocity.

played card games like daidi, bridge, snap, and before we could even do the countdown, it was 2008. like WHAT! so we had a glimpse of the fireworks (which was unfortunately blocked by one of the highway bridges).

we subsequently headed to macs at clementi central (where i bumped into adeline chenhoon khangwen and kiral) before going for 3 games of bowling at West Bowl. and i tell you, the facilities are like so much improved, i'm so proud of west coast. LOL. so i scored pathetic 100s and 90s (i was freaking tired already but i had to seem energetic still HAHA). so the grp consisting of sadikin, me, lionel, shawn and bryan had like 3 team wins which was totally fabulous.
photos courtesy of sadikin!

ended the first day of 2008 at Macs, and we played a marathon hour long of taboo before parting ways. 4J'07. <3
ORIENTATION BEGINS TOMORROW! EXCITED!!!!
