dude, anonymity bears no weight at all

to 'anonymous', i can see the unwavering enthusiasm you have in my blog, because you never fail to tag time and again. i really appreciate it. i'd appreciate it even more if you could identify yourself. i believe you're not afraid of identifying yourself. i saw you at the night show, and i know it's you. i know you love to wear short pants, and i know you just don't like me.

i believe i am addressing the same person as i did last time to 'singaporean'.
you slipped your tongue saying that "but we reinvented the entire play!" in my tagboard, where 'we' refers to bayley. this means that you're from bayley, and the way you speak bears HEAVY resemblance to the 'singaporean' previously who made equally senseless comments, and whom i suspect was from bayley too. coincidence, eh?

you criticized gw, asking him wheres his sense. i question if you even had any sense when you said buckley would 'confirm lose dramafeste'. where have you put your senses to? were the things you tagged in my board even processed through your brain?

yes, everyone has their own opinions. i credit bayley for its play, but i don't acknowledge the fact that you curse buckley for losing dramafeste. as a rafflesian, at least have some sense of courtesy, respect, and apathy. your failure to even recognize all these values goes to show how insensitive and tactless you actually are.

to be honest, anonymous, losing does not make one a failure. being able to stand tall and brave in the face of adversity is what matters. i hope you do see that, just like how you stay strong despite your loss in any sports championships, or in any interhouse event.

as for everyone else who tagged on my tagboard, i respect what you have to say. at least they were constructive comments.

most importantly, i hope that we can focus on our studies now and move on. dramafeste is over, and we should indeed give it our best shot for the remaining few weeks we have left in RI.

so, anonymous, instead of channelling your time trying to spite me (which you miserably failed to), why don't you spend time revising through your homework?

-----------------------------------------------------
I GOT MY NEW PAIR OF SPECS TODAY! it's this pair of thick-black-framed emporio armani glasses. yay!
-----------------------------------------------------
went to focus music clinic today with jj, chenhoon, brendon and qingxiang today. the first lesson was rather interesting, given the fact that the seniors of the Artist Development Programme gave us a whole lot of information about the rules, regulations and expectations that we should expect ourselves to be in over the next 10 months of rigorous training.
had a totally enjoyable time, and we cracked some funny jokes, and had some funs with the seniors. i foresee the 5 of us spending a great great great great great time together!!!

focus quintet.
-----------------------------------------------------

It's all over.

i got to say. dramafeste ended on a really really REALLY interesting note, a note that has no pitch.

Congrats to all winners, especially to the very deserving Elias for best promising actor!
Some very controversial decisions were made today by the judges, but nevertheless we know ourselves better. we know which young chap is more promising, we know who directs best, we know what entails a great acting ensemble and we know which play was the best.

We all have our personal opinions, just like how the judges have their own opinions [perhaps they just see things in a different light?]. It's a matter of taste, whether you appreciate emo plays, political plays, or just crude humor.

Having said that, the audience has to play a part too in deciding the direction of the play [i.e Whether they laugh insensitively at supposedly unfunny scenes]. The cast has a part to play too in ensuring that they are convincing enough to pull it through.

All in all, i believe the process matters the most. I'm so so very proud of Buckleydf cast because we're the only cast which has members from all 4 levels (i suppose so yeah?). Most importantly, we were willing to take a huge risk; whether it paid off or not, it basically boiled down to the energy level of the cast members and the audience's reactions, which the latter totally had it against us.

Also, like to acknowledge the Hullett cast. You guys deserved much better. You really do. Yeah, daniel cheong, you deserved something too.

I'll be back in school on Monday, and everything goes back to normal.
But i'll never forget this memorable 2 months i've spent with Buckleydf cast and crew.
I'll miss you guys.

Being Perfect.

If I had joined Porgy and Bess, I'd have been in LT3 right now, rehearsing for the final few times before i head to Esplanade with RV in a matter of days.

If I had gone ahead with the batch CIP, i'd have been in Kolam Ayer doing refurbishment works for the residents in Block 61 and 62. Also, I'd have been performing for the residents at the Block Party. Furthermore, I was in-charge of this event, one that was so huge and daunting.

Instead,
I am here at home now, well-rested, and charged up for the matinee and night shows for today's dramafeste performance with the Buckley cast and crew.

Buckley DramaFeste'07: Being Perfect

Somehow, the title bears significance to how i'm feeling now.

28 July was the date that i dreaded. Yet, i feel so blessed now that it is finally the 28th.
This is the end of all the efforts i've put in over the past few weeks.
This is the terminal stage of what i've committed myself to.
This is it.

I do have any regrets, and I'm thankful i had the opportunity to perform for DramaFeste, the first time i've done so for Buckley.

Today's the day. Let's do it, buckleydf'07.

Cast: Mathan.YaoGuang.Louis.Elias.ShouJian.Zachary.ShienHian.Nishanth.
Crew: Ashish.RenYoong.YongSheng.Kenneth.WenJian.
SpecialThanks: Marvin.MsCho.MrChan.MsQuah & all those who've brought me here.

25 July 2007

500th post!

dramafeste: 3 MORE DAYS. AHHHHHH~~~
amc was a mini morale booster for me. i think i really do better in these kinda tedious maths competitions, as compared to those crappy TAs which i never fail to fail (3/16 for differentiation thank you!)
geog today was painful. as in my hands were painful. i spent too much time on the first question, and i basically rushhhhhhhhhed through my 2nd question. still aiming for a 16/20 (speaking of which i had a 17/20 for SS YAY!)

23 July 2007

not just a facade

i'm a different person to everyone.

21 July 2007

i tried so hard to let go, but i can't

canada's next top model cycle 2 winner: rebecca!!! yay!!! [ok i guess i'm the only one watching it on youtube, but who cares. it just ended its run in canada, and she's so much edgier and friendlier than some of the winners in ANTM.

things that happened today:
had a meeting at linan's house with the exco.
did a full run for dramafeste. and they started daoing me coz i became high.

20 July 2007

how far we've come

Buckley Team 1 wins 2 out of 3 debates! [Yuzhou and ErnXu wins best speaker once each]
Buckley Team 2 wins 2 out of 4 debates! [Kenneth wins best speakers for 2 debates!]
so proud of everyone. and so exasperated that we actually won 3 out of 3 debates today!!!
today was controversial, had this argument over whether we should have a walkover over morrison [apparently they couldn't get a full team, so we could decide whether we wanted a walkover. if we have a walkover for this debate, we had to win our next debate to guarantee that that walkover is a win, if not it'll be 2 losses]. eventually, they decided to postpone it, coz some guy in their team had some inter-school competition (dammit.)

ok watched the winners for karaoke singing (ahem with the letter b-a-d for some performances), had the screwed up book club discussion, and i went over-the-top for dramafeste rehearsals (they all though i was mad boohoo).

OH HAPPY DAY!

18 July 2007

Dreaming with a broken heart

to that anonymous person, all i can say is that if i've offended u thinking that i've offended jiajun, then sorry!
but the matter of fact was that, i was just saying that the performances itself were dreadful, and with no particular intent to insult the contestants.

in due credit, i wish to say that jiajun has improved in her voice placement [her voice sounds much nicer now] for revivals and although there were a few slip-ups, she still managed to stand out as one of the prettiest contestants that day and i'm very proud that she has come thus far [who isn't?]

so to anonymous, i hope you understand that my intention is not to question her singing or insult her, but i'm just being honest by giving a general statement about their performances on that day which were really dreadful.

nevertheless, i still believe jj has the potential to go far and its not in my interests to attempt insulting my friend. so i hope u can see things in a larger perspective and understand what i'm trying to say. i know jj knows my directness [verging on bluntness] and she'll understand. thats what makes her always so bubbly and positive!!!

speaking of which, i believe that in life, u have to accept criticisms and not try to cover up for it. when people say that my singing sucks, i'll try to improve. if ppl say my acting/debating sucks, i'll try to improve and prove them wrong. its just a process of improving yrself. everyone has a right to criticize others, but it's just how others accept this criticism that matters. i've received a whole lot of feedback abt me this year, and i guess i'm pretty much used to it. criticism, constructive or not, always makes you a mentally stronger person.

---------------------------

anyway, jj smsed me today and asked if i was interesting in joining focus music school along with hoon. cost is abt $240 per mth and session begins next thursday (although i can only make it next next thursday if i'm really keen). still undecided yet, but i guess it's a rather good opportunity.

[i can smell the stench of durians entering my room. AHHH.]
---------------------------
Ambassador's Series with the US Ambassador was very exciting, better than the previous ones, possibly because i know what's going on with most of the things happening in US and its ties with other nations. so kudos to the school for inviting a great speaker who managed to stir interset within the students.

after the talk, we watched a 'pre-graduation' video made by stanley i think, and it captured moments of our 4 years in RI, which was absolutely touching at some parts. haha, and i made 3 solo appearances (cec investiture, RIGE concert, and int'l friendship day). that made me feel like i've done quite a lot in these 4 years.

3 MORE MONTHS TO GO B4 WE LEAVE THIS SCHOOL. PEOPLE, TREASURE IT AND MAKE THE MOST OUT OF IT!
---------------------------
choir was fun today. learnt a few new songs on the spot, and sight-reading's definitely getting easier and easier for everyone. so good job choir! i can't believe we take such a quick time to finish a song so easily. but with more order and discipline throughout each practice, we'd certainly have an increase in efficiency.

had a talk with ansai. and that really got things working for me again. yet, i've came to realize that there's so many things going through my mind, that sometimes i'm at a loss of words.
----------------------------
dramafeste followed immediately after choir prac. had our first rehearsal at LT1, the actual venue. comments on my performance was that: i needed to be less static. the emotions on my face which i evoked had to reflect correctly with what i said. and i need to stop saying 'TAKE A SIT'. say 'TAKE A SEAT!'
and so, a tiring day which ended at 9pm.
6am - 9pm.
school life.

17 July 2007

Ever After Happily

today's PE lesson was at the last period. and so we had to watch the Science of Lance Armstrong -- some show who demostrates how pro he is and how he overcame cancer and became stronger than over, so strong that no one can stop him and he is on top of the world, and he should be recognized for his determination to come back from the bottomless pits to where he is today.

indeed very inspirational.

oh. and i didn't win anything for the karaoke session! (i call it a session and not a competition, because it seriously is a session).
HAHAHAHAHAHA.
the winner is someone who joined campus superstar and didn't pass 1st round.
go figure.

16 July 2007

revive only shawn and no one.

wah.

my ears are still bleeding man.

thank god shawn saved the day, as well as fukuan.

jiaqi deserved to top the girls category [with 19.5 points HAHA], coz the rest were utterly dreadful (sry jiajun).

like what my brother say, let murderers and rapists watch reruns of this revival episode over and over again. it'll be a physical torture.

what a pity. WHAT A PITY I COULDN'T SEE THE JUDGES' FACES!

15 July 2007

I'M SUCH A LOSER OMG.

OK THIS IS ABSOLUTELY CRAZY.
I'M GOING MAD MAN.

today, knowing that i have dramafeste tomorrow, i had to sms mr toh and tell him that i won't be coming for the next few choir practices due to the hectic schedule for dramafeste. prior to this, i also remembered that i have dramafeste, and because of that, i had to turn down jiajun's invitation saying that i can't support her for campus superstar (even though i confirmed with her a day ago).

just 10 minutes ago, yuzhou reminded me that i have to go melrose tomorrow for RE. and i had to tell yaoguang that i can't go. and i feel like some idiot because i'm going to miss choir for dramafeste and i'm going to miss dramafeste for RE.

and this tuesday, i'm going to sing chinese karaoke, and dramafeste might start slightly earlier than before due to 3rdlang e-learning, meaning i'll miss a bit of dramafeste again.

and on wednesday, i'll miss choir again for dramafeste.

and now. i have not read half of 1984, and i'm supposed to have a book club discussion tomorrow and i'm totally not prepared and i'm going to die.

and and and i haven't finish the chinese homework.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. IF MY SEC 4 LIFE WAS A PLAY, I THINK IT WOULD BE THE BEST SCRIPT OF THE YEAR. OH MY GOD. give me the golden globe.
'louis gives himself a big L'

---------------------------------------

Watched Dim Sum Dollies yesterday. Like what my lit friend (ahem) said, the dimdum dollies made full use of satirical approaches, poking fun at Singapore’s history and even some of the prominent political figures like MM (EternalLee, PowerfulLee, SensitiveLee, ImmortalLee) as well as Emperor Cheng Ho *CHING*.

Some funny quotes included:
‘You know, driving a rickshaw also got FORMULA ONE!’
‘I dun wanna hear, I dun wanna know, please dun sell my sari’ – Madonna’s ‘sorry’
‘NTUC = Night Time U Come’
‘Free trade agreement of course good lah! Free, still need to agree meh?’

Mao: Eh Gandhi, let’s work together!
Gandhi: Ok! But we Indians do what ah?
Mao: *scratches* errrm…. Indians are good at talking. So you in charge of opening comcentres! Leave the mass manufacturing to us!

If you want to catch a rerun, you can probably wait till February for their next appearance at the Esplanade due to popular demand. (today’s the last day, so yeah. Tickets are already sold out. My mum was utterly pissed because she saw the Life! section writing about the “3 Things you can do today”, which included watching Dim Sum Dollies. And since it’s sold out, people are only left with 2 things to do today.)

14 July 2007

Transformers, more than meets the eye

i love MPH bookstore.
went with mum to raffles city and bought the following books at $5.87 EACH!

1) The plays of Oscar Wilde
2) The Hunchback of Notre-Dame
3) Les Miserables (sry i can't put that slur above the E)
haha, getting rather literature savvy as my mum thought that the humanities scholarship, offered at rj seemed rather enticing, which i think so too.

if i really do happen to get the scholarship thingy, i'd definitely have the following combo:
Literature, Geography, Theatre Studies, Maths

that means...ZERO sciences.
------------------------------------------
watched a full run of our dramafeste rehearsal today, and really, i need to get rid off that bimbotism. i looked hideous in certain scenes, and my hands were like all over the place. after much critique on myself and after ppl finished imitating me, i became much much better.

thank god i didn't participate in porgy and bess. if not, my schedule would just b-u-r-s-t and there'll be aboslutely no time for studies.
-------------------------------------------

13 July 2007

the angry mob

first debate: lost to moor 1 by 0.5 (tonghui's team -.-)
second debate: won hullett 2 by 0.5 (nic hsien's team -.-)
shan't say much, but indeed the results are really unpredictable.

can i suggest to the organizers to half an additional semi-finals round before the finals?
coz choosing 2 teams out of 10 straightaway's quite an abrupt thing to do.
there'll most likely be a scenario whereby 3 or 4 teams win 3 rounds out of 4 and that the final 2 teams will have to be decided based on points difference (which isn't quite feasible considering the point margin for every debate is aruond 0.5 to 1.0)

in order words, i still want to be in the running!
=)

12 July 2007

we are the champions, my friend.

rawrrr. someone wanted me to post it, so there you go. zi you by zhang zhen yue for my karaoke comp. don't really give a hoot about it though, as the judges are school teachers and i shouldn't be surprised if i don't win anything.

anyway, had malay compo and letter writing test today. didn't screw up thank god.
dramafeste was fun, as we critiqued each other about our performances for full runs. the generally viewpoint of the cast on me was that i was being too bimbotic in some scenes. for example, i gave bimbotic accents in phrases like 'who are you..?' and 'how are we going to conjure 3k out of nothing?'
i somewhat like morrison's play, thought the usage of the cast was very good.

debates taking place tomorrow. better win ah! yuzhou, ernxu, kwangik, junsean, dewin, wangye, guowei, sideeq, gabriel and xirui (lol), LETS WIN IT FOR BUCKLEY!!!!!!!!!!! *cries in excitement*

11 July 2007

Winning is not everything, but making the effort to win is!

swim finals was fun today; met jj, hui2, and new ppl like serene (who shares the same birthday as me!!!), and some others whom either i had no time to talk to or i simply didn't want to talk to.

good news: Raffles swept 'A' and 'B' divs boys/girls, as well as 'C' girls, with the exception of 'C' boys, who did well too by missed by a narrow 12-point margin (oh, and i bet you the newspapers will only highlight our loss in 'C' div boys, coz the media likes abnormality.) saw synchornized swimming 'live' for the first time, and i gotta say its very impressive how they can control their breath upside down for so freaking long.

oh, and moving on to school, I'M NOT GOING TO FAIL PHYSICS QUIZ!! thanks to yuzhou's very sought after guidance and fantastic crash-course teaching of practical electricity. now i know P = VI!

RE was relatively boring. besides complaining abt our many mishaps, and gawking in amusement at the 'ethics declaration form', we spent most of our time working on report and cutting out letters for our noticeboard.

Interhouse debates taking place this friday, motions for the 2 rounds are...
Round 1: This House Believes in Protectionism (Proposition) against Moor 1
Round 2: Impromptu debate: Category -- Science and Technology against Hullett 2
Two tough teams to fight it out against, hope we can emerge victorious and earn our deserving final spot.

09 July 2007

Exchange with the Choir of Trinity College

After an entertaining physics lesson and a 'potentially-failure' TA, lionel and i headed to LT1 for the choir exchange with one of the finest choirs in Australia. although they are a 20-odd strong choir, they sure have the talent and the flair for singing. 2-3 RV'ers were paired up to 1 trinity singer, and we had some warm-ups and combined practice, followed by both choirs showcasing their repertoire.
an enjoyable day, got to interact with some of them, and sure hope they had fun too.

and you pronounce it as 'kong qiu qian', not 'kong chiu chian'.

The Earth is ALIVE!

Eww. my presence has been absent here for the past 2 days.

Besides the RIMB concert where we supported jiawei (and dhruv) on Friday, there was also debate training (where Xi Rui pronounced parasitical as parah-sight-tick-al).

Yesterday was a fun day, where we did a full run for dramafeste, and i guess my emo-ness is starting to develop rather naturally, which is good for my role hurhur. had choir after that, where we, the sec 4s, did an a capella version of 'This Love', which i'm taking lead vocals.

somehow i think its thanks to all these band, acapella, music things that helped me expand my vocal range, so much so that i can reach some tenor notes rather easily. =D

I guess i'm getting really tired, coz i woke up this morning, feel really restless and lethargic. coz everything will be taking its toll on me in no time. 8 days of July have passed.

tasks to do for next week:
1) get rdy for exchange with trinity college
2) read '1984'
3) finish eng portfolio
4) ss documentary
5) debate case setup settled
as well as upcoming TA, which i think ill pass.

05 July 2007

on the verge of something wonderful

watch this video by shirley bassey as she covers Pink's 'Get the Party Started'. darn cool.

i need to rest now though. just came back after dramafeste (it went well) and i still have a physics appliance task staring in front of me. also have to prepare debate case and guess what? my team will be against alaric and karliang's team. LOL.

03 July 2007

tagboards are unbelievable

try and spot the funniest thing in this picture. took it in one of the beijing parks. you can click to enlarge it i hope.

oh my. one p2 classmate of mine whom i've lost touch with just tagged on my blog! totally cool how blogs can really connect people after years. and to my old friends: if u happen to find 'louis lim' very familiar, leave a tag but rmb to leave a contact or sth!!
today was really a huge huge relief. all the mocopoco projects are finally over.
xungen GONE!
biography GONE!
greenwave GONE!
TA GONE! (literally too)

YES YES YES and now no more major things except for physics toy, portfolio, ss and cec/choir stuff haha.
so louis is now a very happy boy with much lesser stress. YAY!

02 July 2007

01 July 2007

and i'm telling you that was bad.

The two jennifers competing to see who sang 'and i'm telling you' worse at the BET Music Awards. i would spare you the youtube link to it coz both of them unexpectedly sounded quite bad.

was watching the soccer match btwn singapore and australia yesterday while channel surfing.
scoreline read: Singapore 0 - Australia 3
Commentator says: Singapore has proven that they can play football!
erm hello, they didn't score a goal.

they were also showing the hongkong handover to china 10 year anniversary ceremony on 3 starhub stations, where the 4 hmeeavenly kings (aaron, leon, jacky and andy) belted out vocals better than jennifer holliday.
damn, perhaps i really should've went for the christina concert, which my brother said was good.

attempted completing our xungen project with lionel and isaac at my house today, and we ended up 'audition'ing. haha. WATCHING FANTASTIC FOUR tomorrow with 2B ppl. call me outdated. but really, do i care?
