WHAT THE HELL.

mariah carey just got owned.

So you think you can dance? Season 2 Winner Benji Schwimmer is making his appearance on the Dance Floor Finals tomorrow! cool.

PTM

i think if i wore a pedometer with me today, i'd have hit like 100000 steps. i really empathize with all those sec 2s studying at the 7th floor, having to climb around 210 steps everyday up and down.
nevertheless, all went well, really grateful that i had a situation of EXCESS manpower instead of a lack of manpower. ended up some ushers went home early, and some were given alternate jobs created by me (i.e carrying packet drinks, doing random stuff all for the benefit of all cec members)
like to thank mr low, level comms (esp daniel ng) for helping me in the coordinating of plans!! almost thought i would die doing a one-man show, but all worked out well!
this big event really made me feel that i was capable of doing big things, and i was so inspired and motivated by the enthusiasm of every single cec member who came down today, and were so willing and cooperative in making ptm a success. kudos to all you guys!!
indeed, i gained from experience. this time was considered a breeze in comparison to the last PTM last year which i coordinated. i had to clear up all the mess after everyone left last time, simply because i didn't delegate well enough. i ended up bringing all the fans from the 2nd,3rd,4th floor of junior block down to the 1st floor alone. but this time, the cecs helped me out!!! ahhhhh~~~

right now, my legs are just rotting of weariness. but my voice's getting better, so back to singing my songs again. hahahhaa.
------------------
watched dance floor (encore) today. and i got to say, some teams are really quite good. but one thing made me twitch: jade seah said this at the end of the show:
"........Remember to tune in to Singapore Idol tonight at 10pm!"

i was like... hello. it's American Idol. but never mind, just grateful that american idol will be back to its original, rightful timeslot of 8pm, and that the results show won't be ridiculously split into 2 segments.

26 April 2007

never again

gosh. the flu bug's driving everyone insane. at least 10 ppl in my class are sick, with yellow phlegm and sore throats. and the situation isn't getting any better with us studying in confined air-conditioned classrooms without any fans, and with windows that are most of the time locked.
sometimes we ask for better facilities, but truly it sure backfires sometimes. guess something needs to be done about this. if not, my health will just get worse, and worse and worse, and people around me will all start getting sick. and soon, we'll all be bringing boxes of tissue to school everyday. =X

well oh well, flunked chem cct. not even thinking of a 20+ mark. just a pass will be enough to appease me.
but its alright, its ok!! now theres just english portfolio and ptm and choir matters to be settled. with that, tahdah! end of a hectic week.

~~idol spoiler: NO ONE GOT ELIMINATED TODAY. apparently, ryan seacrest announced yesterday that there will be a 'shock' today. and the shock is that theres no elimination! how ridiculous. if i were someone who voted like mad yesterday, i'll be absolutely pissed because i was voting for NOTHING, and i got scammed into donating for idol gives back. smart strategy of american idol eh. but i'll believe there won't be any record-breaking calls next week, trust me.

25 April 2007

signal fire

alright. taken it down. sorry if it offended anyone. guess theres no point putting it there anyways.
~~~on, on and out of sight~~
was thinking about how ppl uploading random videos on youtube can get sued, so i shall be a safe conservative member of the society and do no harm to anyone from now on.
just watched idol gives back. and gotta say it's quite successful, looking at how they incorporate the charity aspect into the show. nevertheless, its still a competition and here i rank them according to tonight's performance (from best to worst): Jordin, Melinda, Phil, Chris R, Blake, Lakisha <-- out
lakisha. why in the world did she sing 'i believe'. it sounded so wrong and noisy and throaty-shouting.
CONGRATS TO NY AND RGS CHOIR FOR WINNING GOLD WITH HONOURS!!!!!
24 April 2007
and i'm so sick.
almost fully recovered from my bout of flu/sorethroat/headache/fever/phlegm. was a terrible 3 days i had.....so much so that i skipped the first two lessons of school today. but i have an MC, so that's not considered skipping.
at this moment, i feel like theres so much at stake. if i were to fall sick one more time over this weekend, it'll mean that i'll flunk my chem cct on thursday, i'll not attend learning journey day tomorrow, and i'll not be in charge of ptm on saturday (more so, nich can't help me on saturday coz he has LDP.)
so many things, so little time.
this is really the peak.
i'm listening to everyone sang again and again to just cheer me up. hahaha.
Maths CCT today was DO-able!!! Meaning...I can score 80%!! alright more or less you can say so. this might very well pull my overall mark and i'll be so happy because once my maths go up, nothing can stop me. then i can fulfil my target of 3.6 gpa. WOOO.
Today, for Chem lesson, Mr Koh gave us a target for the upcoming cct:
"For this CCT, 4J must be the top 14 classes out of the 17 classes. Currently, you're last."
4J responds in outrage and shock: "WHAT? We're LAST?"
Mr Koh replies: "Who else can be worse than you?"
wah, my heart almost sank please. We're really like the worst class currently in the whole cohort. in comparison to 2B last time, like omg, from best to worst. i'd like to think on the contrary, for some subjects, we're doing pretty well. maybe we're just more humanities inclined, thats why we flunk all the maths/sciences subjects. but somehow, this 'worst class' theory isn't really affecting me. whereas when i'm placed in a super smart class, I tend to be like the most pathetic.
what a wonderful week 6 i'm going to have, with Geog CCT, Chem CCT, Physics Quiz, and English Portfolio.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Miss Lin Jia Jun is famous. LOL.
ok here's the breakdown, looking at their faces:
guys
-- xu bin: ok he looks good. but does he sound good? (a lot of ppl says he'll be the next Renfred)
-- shawn: one cute little boy. think he'll go far, coz aunties will simply lurvvve him.
-- marcus: school glory! wonder if the sch population will vote for him.
-- javin: cool name, cool face, cool school.
-- ngeow zijie: ok he was like diya's fanclub chairman last time. set to go very far.
-- wilson thong - seems like the joker and the perky one of the season
girls
-- Yu-Hsuan - looks very pretty. most likely a taiwan native? studying in HCI.
-- Jia Jun - WINNER
-- Zheng Ning - ok, another Raffles representative who's received a lot of publicity. and when i say 'a lot', i mean it. (oh she sang hen jiao se for her 3rd audition, and somewhat screwed it up too. haha, hen jiao se is like JINX song)
-- Teri - she has some mixed blood thing going on. lets see if her vocals can pull it off.
JJ, don't worry lah. You'll shave off the competition and emerge victorous. TING NI!
RIMB awarded Gold. (ONLY. they should've gotten GWH man.)
RICO awarded Gold.
oh and Channel 5 heeded my advice by placing Desperate Housewives at 10pm, pushing After Hours to 11pm. KUDOS!
15 April 2007
i know the stars will shine for you and for me
CONGRATS JIAJUN ON MAKING IT TO THE TOP 20!
13 April 2007
trust me it will scare you
Friendster's really useful.
I was browsing through some of my friend's profiles, and i can't believe i managed to find around 8 of my p1 classmates, whom I thought vanished from the face of Earth are actually still alive! And they look so much more mature, and everyone has bigger things in life, and it's just amazing how these world works.
what a bittersweet feeling. and i just went mad and started adding all of them, just in case they really vanish from earth.
12 April 2007
Alanis Morissette takes a poke at 'My Humps'
fergie must feel i-n-s-u-l-t-e-d.
it's true we'll make a better day just you and me
Arts at the Gallery
Attendance was relatively pathetic, thanks to a very awkward timeslot, which is after the last period. like DUH, as if anyone would come. only a crowd of 40+ turned up, compared to the booming audience during recess for RIGE and RISE. hope there won't be such a timeslot ever again. Nevertheless, another performance to show how far away are we still from reaching our best. somehow, i'm gettin confused as to what our best can be, but surely this isn't our best yet.
now i understand ACS(I)'s motto: The Best is Yet to Be. A thought-provoking motto indeed.
-----------------------------
Int'l Friendship Day
I just listened to the "We are the World" performance. As the file size is too huge, I can't upload it on YouTube. so you'll just appreciate the visual aspect of my performance haha.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pI_ZNrPzBMM <-- a muted video performance.
I'd give myself a 5.5/10. The main problem why I came in so shaky and pitchy at the start was because I couldn't get the initial key of the song, and the music was terribly soft, where I was standing. That's why I got flatter and flatter and flatter, and came in early at some parts. Mic also had some problems, so my voice turned out choppy.
I destroyed the first verse. Second verse was better though, came in in tune, and regained some composure. Halfway during the first chorus, the crowd started clapping, and scholars started waving their hands along with me! When i reached the bridge part, everyone started screaming because the crowd was doing some kallang wave thing, and I was rather entertained by the crowd. Mutual entertainment.
I sounded super harsh when i said "Stand up, guys, STAND UP!" LOL. apologies for that, didn't know where did that hype within me came about. Nevertheless, after a while, all of them were on their fast, singing along, demostrating international friendship.
After that, i had to sing the chorus 5 more times, so i was like modulating each single chorus and it got BORING for me. turned out to become some random warmup session where i tried different variations. but blah, no one gave a damn by that point. So good job Louis, at least i managed to liven the atmosphere.
-----------
Miss Scarnato got eliminated today. Damn it, but her exit performance was powerful. Phil was so prepared to leave already. 2 wrong predictions in a row. makes my all-seeing eye score to be 3/5 currently.
11 April 2007
La Tortura
THURSDAY 12 APRIL 2007
International Friendship Day - I will be performing the Finale song item "We are the World". Hope to belt out my very best, though it kinda sucks because the song isn't really in a good key, so I can't really blast it out well. This whole Int'l friendship celebration is quirky, as I'm the only local involved in the whole programme. It was somewhat a cultural shock when I went for the rehearsals. Oh, but Dr Chionh was soooo nice to me, she said my performance was 'excellent'. =)
Arts at the Design Centre - Raffles Voices will perform 3 of our SYF pieces at the design centre at 1pm (Ok, i know the timing stinks). Come lend your support to the Award-winning choir!!!!
--------------------------------------------
Latin in the house with J.Lo tonight on Idol!!! J.Lo is 10000 times better an 'Idol trainer' compared to Gwen Stefani. She has the poise, the elegance, and she was G-L-A-M-O-R-O-U-S (as Fergie would spell it out for you)
Blake Lewis - "I need to know" - 8.5 - He has a great solid voice, and captivated the audience.
Chris Richardson - "Smooth" - 8.0 - His image is similar to JT's "Like i love you" video.
Tonight, these two guys were very contemporary and brought in their own flavours, hence eventually won Lakisha and Melinda, both of whom I awarded 7.5, simply because they were too cabaret and were two very safe performances.
Sanjaya (7.0) won't be in the bottom 3, and it's not because he's popular for being unpopular, but he was really good this week. At least, he was able to attract my attention and he took a huge risk by singing Latin at the beginning. He has nothing much to lose anyway. Having gotten so much media publicity and causing so much outcry, he surely has captured global attention. Wouldn't mind if he actually wins this competition, cos that'll be very interesting.
Predicted bottom 3: Jordin - 7.0 (simply boring), Haley - 6.5 (Her niche of wearing skimpy clothes and flirting around was seen through by Simon), and PHIL - 6.0 (His performance was bleargh, he cracked twice, and he totally was defiant of the comments Simon gave.)
Phil: "My daughter has a new toy cow. And she called it Simon Cowell."
Goodbye Phil!
-------------------------------------
How ridiculous. Just after I posted the Philo saga, something today totally pissed me off AGAIN!
Somebody was getting so pissy and started whining about how he's going to get retained because he failed Philo and because of that he intends to photocopy everybody's Philo Draft in order to get a pass. Afterwards, when the sheet of "marks for subjects" paper was distributed, he started complaining about how everyone is doing better than him and he's just a total sucker. And when i told him to cool it, he got even more pissed, and that wasn't cool at all.
COME ON. Get a life. and why should i even be indebted to lend you my Philo Draft. I got a freaking 24% for Philo overall and you got a 47%. Move on, dude, cos that attitude won't bring you far.
Moving on, here are my final CA marks:
Maths - 56 X 2 [Double weightage]
HCL - 63
English - 72
Physics - 77
Social Studies - 79 [1 damn mark short of an A+]
Chemistry - 82
Geography - 85!! (That's like Band 1)
Thanks to maths, i have a GPA of 3.30, which does no justice to my top 5 subjects.
-------------------------------------
My dad was talking to me about the increased salaries of civil servants. Somehow, I'm conflicted to this controversial issue. Alright, you can say that this incentive will encourage more people to take on political positions in future. It's not easy governing a country, and hence this incentive is implemented to also motivate the civil servants to work doubly hard and provide for the nation.
Ideological I say.
Sometimes, the ends have to justify its very means. I believe the high-ranked people have fat salaries that can last them decades having to work only for 5-6 years. THey wouldn't even mind getting sacked after 5 years, because their lives afterwards will be very very comfortable because of their skyhigh salaries.
Now, compare someone with a MP who earns $100k a month with a food court cleaner who earns $1000 a month. It's really tragic, cause it'll take me 100 months to be equivalent to the income of a MP if I were to be a S11 Cleaner.
Yet, these people slog their lives for years and years just to earn a meagre sum, and they break their bones, they spend hours working in the food courts, and yet the rich people only burn their brain cells, and need not lift their fingers most of the time. Furthermore, the less wealthy people are tied down to the urbanized way of living in Singapore, where GST is hiked till such an amount [and where highly-paid people don't care whether the GST has been raised tenfold], and where meals and drinks cost around $10 inclusive of 3 meals daily.
Why, why do we have such a disparity?
Sometimes, i think countries like Australia are good, because they look into the social welfare of the poor and needy, giving them extra income. You can say that the needy people will be over reliant on such incentive packages, but do you think they really want to lead their lives owing people money and being so overly dependent? Surely, they've got to think twice about that.
"The rich gets richer, the poor gets poorer."
I'm so gonna work hard and lead a comfortable life in future.
-------------------------------------------------------
I hate it when people start comparing marks. I hate it when I start comparing marks with people. Many people are guilty of it, including me.
So what if I scored higher than you. So what if you fared better than me. Instead of just sitting there and whining about how screwed up the marking system or how difficult the paper was, I think we should all reflect our progress and how we could've done better, or prepared ourselves sufficiently. It's just plain irritating when people, who did well in a certain assessment and deserved to recieve compliments, instead get sidelined by classmates because they did well.
Sometimes, there's no need to get so sour over things. For example, nearly 60% of the 4J'ers failed the Philo draft, yet I scored 7/10. It's just so irritating when some people start getting pissed with you getting a high mark for whatever reasons, either that or they whine about how low they got and its ridiculous how people could've possibly aced it.
Likewise, for other subjects, there's no point in grumbling the mark disparity between students. Why compare, compare and compare? Don't we have something better to do? At times, it's good to compare with friends around your standard, because you can gauge where you currently stand and it acts as a motivation for you to work even harder.
But, at times, the situation gets so out-of-hand, everyone takes a difference of a mark or two SO SERIOUSLY when they start comparing with their friends. Come on, its not as though that mark or two will kill you. Besides, there are so many other components later in the year you can make up for.
Let's just pull through and maintain that healthy learning process.
NO MORE COMPARISON.
08 April 2007
but if you just believe, there's no way we can fall
Q: What do you do when a blonde throws a hand grenade at you?
A: Pull the pin and throw it back.
Q: Why did the blonde tip-toe past the medicine cabinet?
A: So she wouldn't wake up the sleeping pills.
Q: How to you keep a blonde busy all day?
A: Put her in a round room and tell her to sit in the corner.
yes, obviously i'm bored. there's so much things to do but i don't know where to start AHH.
tell me 'bout it
went bryan's house for his birthday party!! reached there around 3+ and the dudes were already watching mean girls haha. nabil could even rmb the sequences and speeches of the movie so well, ppl wanted to kill him coz of that HAHA. all in all, it was a really 'fetch' day. rainy weather kinda disrupted our bbq plans, but bryan's parents and brother were so kind to help deliver the food to the pavillion, where we had fun eating hotdogs which were hot and chicken wings, not forgetting the marshmellows which we had fun playing with.
preparing the birthday cake for our birthday boy. oh, the glamorous group was often hiding in bryan's lair watching youtube videos of mariah and whitney and toni. high-pitched frequencies these days are seriously freaking me out, with choir and diva ballads and all those powerhouse vocals. driving me nuts like totally.
everyone's laughing for who knows what.
oh, and there. everyone so engrossed in watching some dumb blonde jokes video clip on youtube. oh, and theres this 'magician' called David Chesterfield. go watch it, its freaking hilarious. shawn showed this Jap variety show of how ppl were being 'punk'd'. totally hilarious.
06 April 2007
must (not) see Channel 5
Let’s look at the “Holiday Movies” Channel 5 is showing today.
Pinocchio
Mr Magoo
Next Action Star
Ice Age
A Cinderella Story
Down to Earth
American Rhapsody.
Ok, I guess this makes it rather self-explanatory.
I was searching for Survivor: Fiji’s timeslot, and surprise surprise! They are showing it at 12.30am! That’s why I’m watching Survivor on YouTube these days.
I haven't really watched a full episode of The Dance Floor, simply because
a) The songs they play are not original covers,
b) They are the cause to why American Idol is being pushed to 10pm.
This is why I’m watching Idol on the more-preferred channel, Star World, which is shown at a PRIMETIME slot at 8pm. Seriously, I’d rather listen to Melinda and Lakisha belt out some powerhouse vocals than to listen comments like 'I hated it.' and 'You make me wannna danceeeee!!!"
Even shows like Desperate Housewives, and America’s Next Top Model (which is hardly advertised), had ended its season run yonders ago, and are being shown only NOW. Worse still, Desperate Housewives starts at 10.30pm, all thanks to After Hours.
After Hours is a local production which stars Utt, Linda, and Joanne Peh. Incidently, a show in the past titled Chase, ALSO features Utt and Linda! Maybe they should’ve named After Hours ‘Chase 2’ instead.
If all these aren’t appalling enough, here’s a little something.
BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND:
Maggi & Me (Encore), will be shown at a primetime slot of 9pm, on MUST SEE TUESDAY!!
REJOICE EVERYONE, REJOICE!!!!
The slogan says it all:
Entertaining you on 5.
Week 15 (2nd - 8th April '07) / 400th Post
1) Catch you – Sophie Ellis-Bextor
2) Walk this way – Sugababes vs Girls Aloud
3) With love – Hilary Duff
4) Love today – Grace Kelly
5) Home – Daughtry
6) Lil Star – Kelis feat. Cee Lo
7) Whistle for the choir – The Fratellis
8) Keep your hands off my girl – Good Charlotte
9) You know I’m no good – Amy Winehouse
10) Tell me ‘bout it – Joss Stone
11) Lollipop – Mika
12) Starz in their eyes – Just Jack
13) Beautiful Liar – Beyonce and Shakira
14) Grace Kelly – Mika
15) Way back into love – Hugh Grant and Haley Bennett
18) Anything – JoJo
19) World Wide Woman - Beyonce
05 April 2007
run to where you want
ohmygosh. i heard there won't be a gpa given for the 1st progress report. instead, u'll be given a percentile mark for each of the subjects. meaning, your score will be compared to the other scores from yr cohort. geez, this means that even though i scraped an A+ for chem, i'm still like the 70th percentile, coz so many people got full marks. HOW IRRITATING.
oh, and i heard that for philo, the average mark is 8/30, with the highest scoring around 18. this is the result of of
a) a difficult test to make us think that philo is important a subject (so much so that they are grading yr DRAFT copy of the essay, which makes entirely no sense since its supposed to be a draft in the first place??),
b) the teachers have not really done that much, and by saying 'not really done much' is an under statement, or
c) there isn't really anything to learn, and the subject philosophy is just losing it in the curriculum.
i would say, d) all of the above.
morning assembly today started on a rather sombre note, considering we were all in the hall. we though there was going to be a ****** ******, but it turned out to be a ________________________. (shan't disclose it because it's CONFIDENTAL. coz if i do, i might very well get a ****** too)
seriously, life is already stressed up and confusing enough. stop making things worse for yourself, for everyone. just avoid all these unnecessary forms of fun and contribute to your school, not destroy it.
04 April 2007
one way or another, i'm gonna get ya
alright, haven't been updating about some normal stuff for a longgg time.
1) track n field 2007 - Mission Buckley: 3RD PLACE! overall ranking: 3rd place
current standings:
1st: bayley - 21
2nd: morrison - 13
3rd: buckley - 11
4th: hullett - 10
5th: moor - 9
come to think of it, we're holding a very narrow lead. so irritating.
oh, and wenjian/yuzhou gonna scrape that goner buckley recycling bin poster. it looks hideous when being placed in btwn azzurro's and the avant garde posters LOL.
2) left with little homework
FINALLY all the humongous monster gigantic assignments are DONE. erp, greenwave poster, ccts, DONE. now i'm just left with cec workshop matters and grad night/ parenteacher meeting proposals. wonderful.
oh, and getting back progress report. i think its rather ridiculous that we're getting it back so quickly, considering some subjects only have like 1 miserable component to calculate yr overall grade. (e.g geog only has 1 graded assignment, which i scored 85% thank god. so this will be my first 4.0 gpa subject in my life in RI. *teary-eyed* LOL)
other loaddowns:
english - 3.2/3.6 (since mrs albar said almost the whole world failed)
maths - 2.4 X 2 (can't get over this, stpuid test only scored 32%)
physics - 3.6
chemistry - 4.0 (oh yeah, this is ANOTHER 4.0 INCREDIBLE)
ss - 3.6/4.0
chinese - 2.8 (this is particularly screwed up. all the assignments and performance tasks for this year seem to be rather strict. NOT FAIR. i can't believe i actually have 63 for chinese. UNBELIEVABLE)
geog - 4.0
average gpa: 3.25 ~3.35
MISERABLE. thanks to maths. =.= if not it would've been a great great year. but its ok, I PROMISE I'LL DO MY MATHS HOMEWORK AS POSSIBLY WELL AS I CAN and redeem myself. damn it.
3) whats with the no aircon policy in the morning. its driving me M-A-D. its so warm, and stuffy, and sweaty, the first thing i come in the morning and i GET ALL WARM AND STICKY. i hope this isn't some campaign pilotted by green earth club or sth in an attempt to reduce energy consumption. PLEASE, do something about it! omg. it is totally incredulous why they're not switching it on, because after all, there are no fans, and we can't really control the ventilation in the class if the aircon isn't working, thank you.
4) choir is getting exciting. just 2 more weeks before SYF. congrats to RICO who were awarded gold today. an improvement i can say. =)
so we gotta improve.
we will get
CHOIR OF THE YEAR. CHOIR OF THE CENTURY. CHOIR OF THE MILLENIUM. WOOOO!!!
top 9 performances
yawn. today was just some random 'toni bennett' week featuring all the oh-so-uninteresting swing/jazz genre. so shan't wish to elaborate further.
Top band: Melinda, Chris R, Blake
Middle band: Lakisha, Jordin, Gina
Bottom 3: Sanjaya, Haley, Phil
Prediction: Phil out, though Haley might come as a surprise.
walk this way, talk this way.
for a moment i forgot that i would receive my first progress report this month. well, did pretty well for all the subjects (at least a 3.6 or 4.0) other than maths, with a measly 2.4. so my gpa eventually might plummet to a miserable 3.45. sad case.
nevertheless, TnF day's tomorrow! buckley gonna get top 3 man. wahahahhaah.
and its so nice to see ppl consoling me for css, but realli theres nothing to be sad about lah. need not worry about me yeah?? =)
i'll just watch reality tv with a very critical eye, i can assure u that. roarr.
Stars in their blind eyes.
Superstar: A superstar is a very famous entertainer or sports player. [adapted from Collins CoBuild dictionary]
Now, compare this to the definition of Idol: If you refer to someone such as a film, pop, or sports player as an idol, you mean that they are greatly admired or loved by their fans.
thats why "singing" televised competitions, don't focus on singing, generally speaking, talent. My dad told me about the times decades ago, where shows like Talenttime truly scouted real talent. People who could sing, and dazzle the crowds, and be evergreen till now.
Thats why, I've come up with a hypothesis:
In the past, people who had a great voice were groomed to look better.
Now, people who have great looks are groomed to sing better.
Oh, what a transitional change in this once-real-turned-fake reality.
Take your pick, my friend.
So, a good call for Greg and other ousted contestants to just forget about what happened yetserday. LETS MOVE ON BECAUSE WE HAVE SO MUCH MORE TO LIFE!! =)
