Entertainment - The Fake Reality

Well, i didn't make the cut for the 3rd round of Campus Superstar Season 2.

I spent maybe 98% of the time waiting like a loser at Toa Payoh Hub, and maybe only 2% was the actual thing.

Wait...
Wait...
Wait...
My focus slowly dwindled.

Once it was my turn to go, I just couldn't focus anymore and just said: "Heck, just get this over with. I don't know what I'm doing here in the first place".

Firstly, the main reason why I didn't get in was because the judges unanimously thought that I overdid my song (in chinese, zhao zuo). With regards to my vocal quality, my tone, and many other factors, nothing was discussed about it. So essentially, it was my overdoing of the song that doomed me. A really good reason to not put me through next round, I guess. At least, its a better reason than last season, where I was eliminated because I was wearing braces.

Once i got eliminated, it's normal that one gets a little pissed and starts shoving through the crowds, looking as though i'm one of the most upset people. But this time, i didn't cry like a mad idiot. I didn't whine like a loser. I took the results graciously, and i told myself:
'This is just a competition made for entertainment. Why harbor so much regret and hatred if I know i've done my best?'

Often or not, we'll see hopeless villains in televised competitions, from Sanjaya, Scott Savol to Renfred and Joakim. Why does this happen? It's all in the namesake of entertainment. How did they even last so far? God knows. What I'm trying to say is that such competitions aren't really a true testament of your singing ability, more so how you'll succeed in your career as a singer, if you wish to embark on that journey.

Looking back at the CSS Alumni, i tell myself, is it worth it? It'll have to consume a whole lot of your time as a teenager which may be dedicated to schoolwork, it disrupts your whole lifestyle, and you're under the scrutiny of the world. CSS Winner Zhiyang, and even our very own homegrown talent Yin Wei, look at where they are now? It really sucks, because the popularity in such competitions are so short-lived. And once one season is over, the next season pops up!

It's just utterly sad. Even 'I-weekly' placed so much emphasis on handsome guys and chio gals. Where did the segment on talent disappear to? Ultimately, its looks that override talent. Saying that talent prevails eventually is just simply idealistic, especially in the media where looks mean everything.

If there was any chance I were to be in the top 20, it would mean
a) having to attend charity events
b) having to attend movie gala premieres
c) perform at some random roadshow event
d) sing theme songs for random shows
e) advertise for random products
f) doing many more random stuff.

seriously, looking at all these factors, I can conclusively say that I would not want to be in the Top 20 of CSS, because I'll have to tie myself down with so many commitments and that I will be forever, and ever ever known as the dude in the CSS Alumni.

All in all, this is just for pure entertainment. If not, why would such competitions be televised? In every competition, you'll need the following:
1) A super handsome guy and a super chio girl, who can't sing for nuts
2) A super paikia guy who sings relatively well
3) A very sweet girl who has a sweet voice and wins the heart of many
4) A tomboy who is just different from all the ordinary blend girls
5) A mad and hyper boy who does all sorts of weird antics
6) Just your girl-next-door or your boy-next-door
7) A singer who managed to make it into the top 20
If you're not in one of this, you're not making the cut.

Unfortunately for me, I don't belong anywhere.
This is why I'm telling myself, I will, and never join such televised competitions again, unless I'm super prepared for it, unless I have the time to commit to it, or I JOIN A MUSIC SCHOOL and establish relationships with my vocal coaches, who may very well be the judge for the competition. =)

Meanwhile, I'm back to studies and study hard and be a good boy. I just want to thank all those who have been so concerned and supportive of what I've always been trying to pursue, but I guess the time isn't ripe yet.

----------Reality TV, just a fake reality. Talent quests? Yeah right.

(Congrats JJ on making it through to the 3rd round. Do raffles proud. i'm transferring all my energy to you. EVERYTHING.)

29 March 2007

I'M FLUSTERED.
I FEEL THAT MY SONG CHOICES ARE RATHER SCREWED, HAVING JUST STARTED ON THEM.

i'm going to scream.

(hehe i just realized my i have an all-seeing eye of 3/3 for predictly accurating the idol eliminatinos for the past 3 weeks.)

idol top 10 performances

Top Band:
Gina Glocksen - "I'll stand by you" - 9.0
one of her personal bests. very anchored performance and finally delivered her vocals impeccably. had that rocker-cum-ballad tone in her voice and was very inspiring, accompanied with her stage presence. thought the outfit was a problem though.

Blake Lewis - "Lovesong" - 8.5
Front male-runner of the competition. Simon said that he might become indulgent in his own techno-jazzy genre and might be in the 'Chris Daughtry' zone, meaning the mainstream ppl might not appreciate his music. nevertheless, his originality and tenderness in his cool voice will garner many votes in the weeks to come.

Chris Richardson - "Don't speak" - 8.5
Back in the running after a surprise bottom 2 last week. Had this R&B feel in this No Doubt song, and definitely gave a nice twist. Very good song arrangement and interpretation, but Simon doesn't like his vocals still. I still thought it was a great take, though I still can't can't get rid of the Justin Timberlake image.

Middle Band:
Lakisha Jones - some disco song - 8.0
Had a very captivating stage presence, but I thought song choice was rather lousy, didn't really get to showcase her vocals. She tried to insert it in parts here and there, which didn't work sometimes. Neverthless, her powerhouse voice is enough to see her thru the next 2 weeks at least.

Melinda DooLittle - "Heaven knows" - 8.0
She was extremely super-duper cautious of her after-comment facial expressions. You could tell it and even Ryan Seacrest asked her something about how she felt after every performance. Judges believed in her great interpretation of the song, and that she was vocally outstanding.

Jordin Sparks - "Hey Baby" - 7.5
I admit that i cringed in fear while watching her risky performance, because it is absolutely doing little justice to the original. But really, its VERY hard to attempt performing that song. So considering that she tried to inject a livelier side of her into the song, you could see she was still rather unconfident and worried. Neverthless, Simon claims she is the most improved contestant, and will make a good recording artiste.

Sanjaya Malakar - "Bathwater" - 7.5
Talk of the TOWN!!! once again, an incredible display of HAIR and HAIR. I think people will keep him because they wanna see his revolutionary hairstyles week after week, rather than his miserable vocals. Well, many sources are supporting him though, so I don't think he'll be in the bottom three any time soon.

Predicted Bottom THREE:
Haley Scarnato - "True Colours" - 7.0
It's a huge crime to see this Cyndi Lauper classic, which has been repeated in some TELEVISION advertisement, some DOVE advertisement, some NONSENSE advertisement, and more advertisements. She really attempted to make it seem original, and although her diva presence tried to make up for the boring song choice, i still believe its not enough to win the audience.

Phil Stacey - "Every breath you take" - 7.0
Another song choice problem. Boring song, boring personality. Plain great vocals, with a typical inserted in the middle. No comments.

Predicted elimination: Chris Sligh - "Every little thing she does is magic" - 6.5
omg. this is even worst that Jonathan Leong's rendition. He was just walking around the stage, shouting throughout the song like some drunkard. time to say goodbye, mr anti-simon. go wave to votefortheworst for all you want. after all, they're supporting sanjaya, not you.

27 March 2007

man, and now ill say
I'M FULLY CHARGED NOW for BOTH SYF and CAMPUS SUPERSTAR.
i am going to surprise myself and i'm having some intensive self-training practices.
somehow, my voice works best under the most undesirable circumstances. my vocal chords will be in better condition whenever
a) i eat chocolate cakes
b) i take 2 cans of coke in a go
c) i sing nonstop during combined
d) i have late nights

it doesn't work when i drink buckets of water, it doesn't work when i take ninjiom chuan pei pi pa gao.

talked to some choir dudes today. they all share the same sentiments, in that there is a vicious cycle going on.
i) boy goes to school
ii) boy sees his 'to-do' list in his notebook getting piled up
iii) boy gets stressed and falls sick
iv) boy gets even more stressed when he has a bad day at choir
v) boy often reaches home late
vi) boy has to burn midnight oil and do some self-study and study scores all at the same time
vii) boy sleeps late and wakes up early in the morning to see HUGE eyebags on his face.
viii) boy looks at point (i) and

THE CYCLE GOES ON AND ON AND ON.
vicious, eh?

23 March 2007

Campus Superstar

Myth: Only one representative from each school will get through.
Fact: There are no restrictions. We are more interested in having a good variety of unique voices. We don’t need a bunch of Stefanie Suns or Tanks when one of each is sufficient.

this brightened my day. but the bummer's that 2nd round of audition will be closed audition, meaning no supporters. coz its rather unnecessary. just need my family to come.

22 March 2007

all i wanna do is find my way back into love

oh ok great stephanie's out. predicted correctly twice in a row. wee. but rather shocking that chris r (aka JT copycat) was in bottom 2, considering he did well yesterday. but i guess sanjaya's MASSIVEHUGELARGEGIGANTICHUMONGOUS fanbase saved him a spot in the top 10.
today's lessons were entertaining, looking at how their reactions were when they saw our new class list. i'm Tony.
i need to get my freakin voice back in time. its only 9 days away. but i believe I CAN DO ITTT ROAR.

britney's out of rehab. cool.

21 March 2007

diamonds are forever

shan't evaluate contestant by contestant. i'll just rank them according to my opinion.
1) Blake Lewis - loved his beatboxing and how he adds a contemporary feel to the classics. i just admire his inventive talent in changing the arrangements of all the songs and how he manages to Blakeize it. just love it. 9.5

2) Melinda Doolittle - Outsang everyone and did you see that 180 degree camera turn on her last note. one thing i don't like about her is that she's getting too fake whenever she receives compliments. she has that 'oh my god i can't believe it' expression whenever the judges praise her. 9.0

3) Jordin Sparks - Incredible. controlled range and voice register. wonderful performer, sang beautifully, but sounded 'gloomy' 9.0

4) Chris Richardson - aww so sweet. showed a different side, and vocals defniitely proven to be great. sexy, charming acoustics, but should rid that nasality-yet-modern tone. 8.5

5) Sanjaya Malakar - UNBELIEVEABLE. i was astonished at him running all around, and having that rock edge feel. even the crazy little girl in the audience was crying, as she did when melinda sang too. 8.0

6) Haley Scarnato - 'Tell him' i love this song. i remember singing it in my primary school days, coz it was simply so catchy. she had this girlish quality and was very adorable. people will remember Haley at last. 8.0

7) Chris Sligh - made a rather cool entrance, walking onstage as though it was his concert, shook hands, clapped along. good vocals, and he worked the audience. he said something about 'Hi Dave!' and apparently it
had some relations with Vote for the Worst. how dumb. 8.0

8) Lakisha Jones - 'Diamonds are forever' I can't imagine this day where i rank her lower than Sanjaya. but she was very old-fashioned cabaret, sounded as though she was in a time machine. but i still loved her stage presence and she just rocked the house nevertheless. 7.5

9) Gina Glocksen - Resident Rocker. SHe has this edgy vibe, but always turn out rather pitchy, going off melody at times. simon says her style outweighs her content, and she was vocally not good enough. but she'll stay because of her unique personality, and her likeable character. 7.0

10) Phil Stacey - He owned the stage and let it all out, but besides his nice falsetto, and great performing skills, i still don't see any sparkle in him, and the judges don't see the direction he's trying to head towards. he was criticized for not being believable and lacked grit. 7.0

Who will get eliminated? Stephanie Edwards. she was just *yawn* boring. shes losing her spirit and sounded pitchy at parts. besides, i don't see her personality coming through. thats why she'll get the boot. either her or phil.

20 March 2007

187 views for my video. cool.

louis, its not as though you're going to win campus.
i have exactly the same sentiments as gregory. so many ppl giving me well wishes and everything. i appreciate it!!! but then its stressing me up HAHA. and greg, don't be stressed!!! we can beat the rj dudes!!! just be confident and OWN THE STAGE!!
but its ok. after all, i've already prepared myself to not go as far as i expected. i just hope that this has somewhat catapulted my confidence and reputation. rather, i've already accomplished something many people didn't. i shouldn't ask for more.
the media is realistic. so long as you LOOK SUPERB and have average vocals, you're destined to go far. what a pity i'm not as handsome as nick chong or have a likable face like jiajun. somehow talent isn't very much appreciated all the time. but not to say that i have an abundance of talent lah. thats why i say i'm not asking for more.
its not as though this is the only competition i can join. i've haven't really gotten good vocals for myself yet, i'm not perfect yet. theres way much more that i can learn from.

so instead of complaining, its time to step up and i'm going to do my best for all those coming down to support me. i love you guys.

19 March 2007

Week 12 (12th March - 18th March 07)

1) Alfie - Lily Allen
2) Lollipop - Mika
3) Ruby - The Kaiser Chiefs
4) Way Back Into Love - Hugh Grant and Haley Bennett
5) Shine - Take That
6) Starz in their eyes - Just Jack
7) P.D.A (We just don't care) - John Legend
8) Candyman - Christina Aguilera
9) Wasted - Carrie Underwood
10) Beautiful Liar - Beyonce and Shakira
11) My, oh my - The Wreckers
12) Beware of the dog - Jamelia
13) World Wide Woman - Beyonce
14) Read my mind - The Killers
15) Over it - Katharine McPhee
16) Not ready to make nice -The Dixie Chicks
17) Grace Kelly - Mika
18) Girlfriend - Avril Lavigne
19) Red High Heels - Kellie Pickler
20) And i'm telling you i'm not going - Jennifer Hudson
------------------------------
first day of term 2 today.
other than getting back 80%+ assignments and assessments (interestingly enough), the day was a rather predictable, and routine one.
its not that i'm being hypocritical of school nowadays, but really. there is absolutely nothing that excites me --nothing that makes me say, I'M GOING TO GO TO SCHOOL looking forward to this, this and this!
the very first thing that i did when i entered 4j classroom was to ask everyone what were the holiday homework. and having left out some work, i decided to do it in class. and it was a lastminute rush, through a series of tedious copying and useless rantings.
nevertheless, some teachers never fail to entertain me still...
1) 'I so disappoint to you!!!!!' - Ms Cai says to Leonard. A perfect sentence for critique.
2) 'The quiz is to test your industrial terms. It's not graded -- Just for fun!' - Dr Chionh

i'm counting the number of hours i spend in school every week. to be exact, its 55 hours per week. 55 freaking hours. tell me, how am i not expected to fall sick, how am i supposed to spend more time with my family, and how am i supposed to pursue my singing ambition? its just frustrating that we don't have time to accomplish many of the things we want to, and most of our life is attributed to school life. after all, my social life outside school is gradually dwindling, and somehow, i feel rather institutionalized.
its no wonder that sometimes during lessons, sometimes during choir, i have the tendency to just stare in neverland, and dream of catching my favorite reality shows (amazing race, survivor <-- all of which i haven't been catching lately. and its starting to piss me off because those are the two shows that i've watched every episode for, since season one.), or just start humming a tune or two to prepare for my next css audition.
sometimes, we just have to be REALISTIC. time is not of essence, and we have to make something WORK and think of something before we can achieve our ideals. i'm just confused, this life is too confusing for everyone to comprehend.

i need to borrow time.
not to finish my homework and complete my projects.
but to get a life, one which i've felt hasn't existed for a significant amount of time.

18 March 2007

we're just ordinary people, we don't know which way to go

sometimes i feel teenagers like us are getting too smart. we talk back at our parents, we share our views (controversial or not) through our blogs, we attempt to flame ppls' blogs, (for example the anonymous dude in my tagboard), we do SO many things.
and what do we get out of it?
i have no idea.
why do we want to do this. why torture ourselves. come on, life's short enough. love your parents, love your friends, be a human, mature as an individual, realize your dreams, indulge in activities that're worth your time.

sometimes, we just need a beating or two to actually wake up from our sad world and realize that life is but bigger than what we're living now. its time to open our eyes and see whats in stored for us in future.

17 March 2007

talks back

found this in someone's blog. "yea well, i was just thinking yesterday and i feel that i do have to give some reasons for why i dislike so many different people. of course i won't reveal their true names, but if you know me well enough you could probably guess.well i shall first start off with the CHOIR GAY BOYS or gay choir boys whatever way you want to have it. like seriously dudes, or dudettes i starting to think, even though you win all the bs in germany, that doesnt make you the freaking best in the world?! heck as far as i know singing in the choir =/= singing contemporary, as your brilliant vice-chairman has shown.so yea, stop acting as if you're some kind of GOD and giving your stupid remarks and comments and SCORES on the american idol conestants. people can CLEARLY see that sanjaya doesnt belong, and people can also see VERY WELL THANKYOU that haley wasnt the best choice. you don't have to go on slamming them on your BLOG because you think she sucks compared to the rest. you think you're better than them? HAHA yea right fat chance dudes. i mean, dudettes.and stop thinking you're damn HOT or whatever cos you're in choir PUH LEEZ its disgusting. gays like you going around like gangsters? and i thought i'd seen everything! you look just like everybody else, two eyes, one nose, one mouth. or maybe you guys have two or more since you blabber an gossip and WHINE so much haha...so yea, get a grip man. you guys STINK"

ya gonna learn chinese

i have told myself to start lisetning to more mandopop in the coming 2 weeks. coz i'll need to get the feel......and the groove of the basic techniques in mandopop, which is very different compared to english pop. n its only 2 freaking weeks before the next audition. come to think of it, its rather near syf. irritating.

well well, so today went down to toapayoh hub after sectionals to witness the CSS audition for gals. and there, i saw jiajun and the rgs gang trapped in the queue. todaywas definitely more crowded than yesterday, noting that its a weekend. and the number of contestants was definitely higher compared to the guys.

i think the main reason is that guys tend to be more shy, hence they would only dare to audition if they're thickskinned or if they're really good. thats why you don't see a huge number auditioning. girls on the other hand, want to group together and just experience the process together. so when one girl wants to try out for css, everyone else will do the same, irregardless of making it to the next round.

after hours and hours and yonders of waiting, (along with mingzhe, gregory, marvin chin <-- a nice chap and hongxiu), THE RG GIRLS FINALLY AUDITION. and after a tragic 0% success rate coming from the first five rg girls, i was rather worried for jiajun. but VOILA, she got the go-ahead even before singing the chorus!!!! and once she went offstage, throngs of ppl interviewed her and she even got an invitation from a modelling company. cool not.

imagine if jiajun and i were like the 'nu guan jun' and the 'nan guan jun' LOL that'd be cool.

just a while ago, i went for dinner with my parents at a coffeeshop and a few ugly singaporean moments happened.

1) it was super crowded. my mum, dad and i found an empty table with 2 chairs. my mum kindly asked the family beside our table if we could take 1 of their 2 vacant seats. the man wittily replied: "oh, this one.....is occupied. this one....is not occupied". and coincidentally enough, the seat NEARER to us WAS occupied, whereas the seat FURTHER away from us was NOT occupied, making it hard for us to get that chair! interesting, uh?

fine. we managed to get a chair from somewhere else and settled down. 5, 10, 15, 30 minutes passed. That supposedly 'occupied' seat was still EMPTY! there, we bitched about the fat, disgusting, ill-mannered, put-his-pork-ribs-on-the-table man RIGHT IN FRONT of his family, making sure they hear every single word of what we say and make them feel embarassed. the ridiculous thing is that, their family of 3 took up 6 seats. 3 for themselves, 1 for their barangbarang, and 2 for whoknowswhat. maybe they preparing for hungry ghost festival i dunno.

the classic is when we were about to leave. my dad told them: "eh, mister, your friend why so long still haven't come? why the occupied seat still empty?"

fat man QUICKLY replied as though he anticipated that question: "OH MY MAID EATING AT THE OTHER SIDE."

Biggest Loser: That Fat Man. you could see his daughter was utterly ashamed of her father.

2) At NTUC Supermarket...

after purchasing our items, we queued to make our payment. as i looked at the other counter, i saw this man, hogging up everyone else's time. what was he doing? he was looking at the total bill, taking out his purse slowly, taking out COIN BY COIN BY COIN BY COIN (10 cent coins) and putting it slowly on the counter, till it amounted to around a measly $2.10. the auntie behind was like absolutely disgusted.

3) When we wanted to push the trolley back into the trolley queue, this indian man asked if he could pay us the $1 and give him our trolley, to cut time. we kindly agreed. guess what he did? he freaking took out 2 5centcoins, 5 10centcoins, and 2 20centcoins= $1 and gave it to my father. @$%@$%$&$%

4) As we were carrying our plastic bags back to the car, i observed something else happening. the car by the roadside opposite us was honking nonstop. well, apparently he has lost his patience due to a very inconsiderate act by a parked car. the couple in that parked car dilly-dallied by doing the procedures as follows:

a) drinking their water b) getting out of their car and cleaning the wind screen c) taking out tissue paper and cleaning the bird shit on their car door d) disposing the tissue paper to a nearby dustbin 20m away e) woman flicking her birdshit-stained hands with water f)couple getting back into the car g) engine starts h) finally car leaves and makes way for the car parked at the roadside.

people these days do get on my nerves.

just found this photo i took last last year.

16 March 2007

louis doesn't want to show his face in all these clips, because his main problem is that he has a limited vocal range, and he has to work on this. thats why i make it up using my stage presence, which i hope can bring me far. more importantly, its the song choices that will make or break you.

HOT HOT HOT NEWS.

http://www.xin.sg/ THERES A VIDEO TOO. AND IT FEATURES EVERYONE IN THIS PICTURE SINGING EXCEPT ME. CRAP. how could they cut my part offffff. wahlao.

by now........

louis lim is in the 2nd round of campus superstar.

together with marcus (sec 3), and gregory (sec 2) <-- CONGRATS!, we are the 3 ppl who'll be representing RI for a spot in the top 24. exciting or not!!!! i really hope they will give one spot to RI and another spot to RJC, instead of labelling the rafflesian community as ONE and only allow one person to get in. that totally doesn't make sense, coz you shouldn't deprive ppl who are in the same school of a chance of a lifetime simply because the rules state so.

to be wholeheartedly honest, i wasn't really surprised today. in fact, i tot the standard had dipped slightly compared to last season. i heard ppl saying 'so many ppl out so malu', 'why so few in', 'aiyah singapore lah what you expect', 'they look stupid on stage', 'i can't hear them they're so soft'.

i was so bored with all the mumbling and droning of some of the guys, but i just told myself to stay focused and concentrate on my bloody song and not waste time criticizing others, at the same time cheering the ri dudes on!! so many ppl sang 'zhuan shu tian shi', thanks to the ella show on channel u at 7pm. i was praying everyone who sang that got TEHHHHHHHH (thats the sound which you'll hear when you're out; if you're in, the DING DING DING bell will sound)

roughly after a consecutive 8 TEHHHS before me (with the exception of gregory's DINGDINGDING), i decided to just let it ALL OUT and just WORK IT. so, i just PUT MY MIKE NEAR MY MOUTH, introduced myself and captured everyone's attention, and just sang rui en's 'tao yan' and just do the song some justice. moved around a little, and just blasted e high parts. my brother said diya remembers me from rhapsody (the competition which she and my brother both joined) cool right. i was like singing the song she sang lah!

my reference number is 3704. <-- go buy 4D if you wish. dun blame me if you dun win. and the lame thing is that they started the day with the number 3600 or 3650. shouldn't they start with 0000 lol. just an attempt to tell the public that response was overwhelming and more than 4000 ppl auditioned on the first day!!!

anyway, wanna tell yishu and guanwei not to be discouraged, and just take it as something to learn from. you guys did great!!!!!! just rmb that the stage is yours when you're up there, and theres no need to be nervous. all the best!

NEXT AUDITION WILL BE AT TOA PAYOH HDB HUB MALL ON SATURDAY, 31 MARCH 2007, at 9.15AM. PLEASE COME DOWN AND SUPPORT ME!!!! I'LL NEED ALL THE CHEERING AND CLAPPING FROM YOU GUYS!!!!

15 March 2007

LOUIS IS GOING TO GO ON STAGE TOMORROW, FULL OF CONFIDENCE AND LIVELINESS.

LOUIS WILL SING HIS LUNGS OUT AND MAKE SURE HE GETS INTO THE SECOND ROUND.

coz LOUIS WANTS TO DO HIMSELF PROUD, HIS FAMILY PROUD, AND HIS SCHOOL PROUD!!!!!!!!

the time has come.

Top 12 Finalists (Performances)

Top Band:
Melinda Doolittle - ‘Home’ – 9.0
as she sang the last note, the camera was rotating 360 degrees around her. Paula cried and Simon coined her the young Gladys Knight. A true champion and legend in the making. She’s really natural and there’s a sparkle within her.
Jordin Sparks – ‘If we hold on together’ – 8.5
Made it a 3-girl-race between Melinda, Lakisha and herself. A young talent who blew the judges’ hearts away. Simon thought the song was rather gooey, nevertheless very good vocals, and raised her benchmark.
Lakisha Jones – ‘God Bless the Child’ – 8.5
She has a new nickname Kiki, which will probably be aimed at increasing her affinity with the audience. Perfect song choice, as her powerhouse vocals wasn’t overdone. Sensational performance and she wore a great outfit. Simon said ‘Either you get it or you don’t get it….You got it.’ The quality difference between her and Melinda was that they were in a different league. 8.5
Phil Stacey – ‘I’m gonna make you love me’ – 8.0
Hot vocals, but I still don’t like his sinister looks. Paula thought song needed to be more up-tempo. Simon disagreed, saying it was a good song choice, though he had the tendency to shout at times. Much better than last week.

Middle Band:
Gina Glocksen – ‘Love Child’ – 7.5
A little pitchy throughout the song, and lacked excitement. Paula thought Gina was shouting at parts and had weak enunciation. Simon thought it was neither bad nor fantastic. She had a good image, but thought the performance was forgettable. Would put her in the middle of the pack.
Stephanie Edwards – “Love ain’t over’ – 7.5
A strong finish, but she forgot her lyrics and tempo wasn’t that upbeat, probably due to bad arranging. Had a strangely delivered starting. Simon thought she was outsung by Lakisha and Melinda today.
Chris Richardson – “The Boss” – 7.5
Overdid the performance. Half-good half-bad. Paula thought he nailed the blend of contemporary and classical. I still feel he’s trying to mimic Justin Timberlake and I don’t like that. Simon critiqued Chris, saying that it’s a singing competition, and putting his vocals in isolation would be something dreadful to hear.
Blake Lewis – “You keep me hanging on” – 7.0
Good vocals, but Randy thought Blake could’ve maintained the essence of the original, instead of trying to modernize it (or Blakeize it). Judges believed the song had a particular style and by changing the arrangement would simply be putting injustice to the original. They thought he was trying too hard, and believed he’ll be alright. Still, he ROCKS!!!

Lower band:
Haley Scarnato – “Missing you” – 7.0
A valiant effort but she forgot her lyrics. Looked lovely but seemed unconfident throughout the song. Pitching was off at parts. Simon saved her butt by going against Paula and Randy, saying she had great sage presence and had great vocals, who truly touched Haley’s heart after all the hard-hittings she’s been receiving.
Chris Sligh – “Endless Love” – 7.0
Look rather alienated without his glasses on. Sounded very much like Coldplay’s ‘Speed of Sound’. With the very techno voice and draggy singing style, the performance was deemed weird by ‘Randy’. Was trying too hard to perform, and should’ve listened to the melody. Sounded like a drone.
Brandon Rogers – ‘When you can’t hurry love’ – 6.5
Starting was boring, uninteresting. Ending was OK. A total letdown, predictable arrangement, no star quality, no originality, forgot lyrics. Anything more?
Sanjaya Malakar – “Ain’t no mountain high enough’ – 5.5
He just stole the song. No one else can sing this song for season 6. And he butchered it. Never got any attention, no explosive vocals, totally stunk. Simon said that considering his age, he was very brave. The only similarity between Sanjaya and Diana Ross has got to be the hairstyle.

Predicted bottom three: Sanjaya Malakar, Brandon Rogers, Haley Scarnato
Predicted elimination: Brandon Rogers (Sanajaya’s VFTW fanbase is simply too huge)

alfie

went to caribbean to celebrate cousin's house.
speaking of birthdays, its true that a lot of couples have sex around june/july like what wenjian said. becoz, 8 ppl in my extended family have their birthday's on march. and every saturday i'm at my uncle's/auntie's house celebrating different birthdays. but today's really hot. coz we were celebrating my baby cousin's birthday.

and he had this freaking cute barney birthday cake.

and a freaking huge battery-powered toy car.
and today i told my mum i need to go to school on monday. she said: "huh, what you mean? obviously you need to go to school what."
apparently, she forgot next week's school holidays.
how FAST time passes. nevertheless, school holidays = 10 zonghe tiankong, 1 stpuid du shu baogao, choir camp, cecc plans, and MANY MORE STUFF. holidays are now USELESS.

i'm slowly moving to the drama shows phase from the realitytv phase. meaning, i'm losing interset in idol, survivor, amazing race, and i'm watching shows like ugly betty, desperate housewives, and csi. wEIRD.

5 MORE DAYS TO CAMPUS SUPERSTAR AND MY VOICE IS STILL FREAKING HORSE LIKE JAMES MORRISON'S. GAHHHHH.

stay in my arms if you dare

ELIMINATED: ANTONELLA BARBA, SABRINA SLOAN, JARED COTTER, SUNDANCE HEAD.

SABRINA AND SUNDANCE doesn't deserve to be eliminated lah wth. its ridiculous that sabrina's out, although i thought she didn't do well yesterday (as indicated in my previous post), but SHE STILL DESERVES a top 12 spot. and sundance did so well this week and last week, i'm sure sanjaya won lah WTF.

Girls who made the cut (according to order): LaKisha Jones, Jordin Sparks, Melinda Doolittle, Gina Glocksen, Stephanie Edwards, Haley Scarnato <-- rubbish.

Guys who made the cut (according to order): Blake Lewis, Chris Sligh, Phil Stacey, Brandon Rogers, Chris Richardson, Sanjaya Malakar <-- bullshit. i'm sure he better than sabrina.

votefortheworst must be crying over antonella's exit.

idol final 16

i'll just rank them, both guys and girls, into one list, starting from the best:
1) Melinda Doolittle - she sang to the back-up singers, which was really touching. can make her own record even without idol. simon called her a little tiger. 8.5
2) Gina Glocksen - "Call me when you're sober" incredible song choice, totally fit her personality. very original, but tend to oversing a bit. 8.0
3) Jordin Sparks - Superbly sang a fast song. Energy level was high, but sounded manic and shrieky at times. 8.0
4) Blake Lewis - Still, someone original, with his beatboxing inserted here and there. he and gina definnitely add a breath of fresh air into the show. 8.0
5) Stephanie Edwards - 7.5
6) Chris Sligh - 7.5
7) Lakisha Jones - Seriously, i thought it was boring. vonzell's i have nothing was ten times better and more emotional. and it has become an official song for all black divas to sing. -.- 7.5
8) Sabrina Sloan - She was somewhat nervous today. sounded a bit strained. 7.5
9) Chris Richardson - i still don't think he has originality. Justin Timberlake copycat. 7.5
10) Sundance Head - not as impressive as last week, but still a good performance. 7.5

AND NOW, the bad ones.
11) Antonella Barba - she really tried to step it up, i tot she deserved to be complimented, but looking at the other contestants, she doesn't deserve any. though simon praised her for handling the media so well, but she shouldn't be patronized simply bcoz of that. 7.0
12) Phil Stacey - sounded like an alien singing 'i need you' by leann rimes. doesn't help with him looking like an alien too. 6.5
13) jared cotter - thats his name??? 6.0
14) haley scarnato - thats her name??? 6.0
15) Brandon Rogers - i just don't like his face and his personality. go away. 6.0
16) Sanjaya Malakar - i managed to stay awake during his performance. 4.5 (i just love giving you a fail mark)

Predicted Eliminations: Sanjaya Malakar, Brandon Rogers, Haley Scarnato, Antonella Barba (which i highly doubt so considering she's still number 1 in some search engines. i guess the diva casualty will unfortunately be sabrina, which will make me cry if shes really out.)

stars in their eyes

8.5/10 FOR GEOG ASSESSMENT! =)
and chem oba was rather easy today. think can get 18/20 if nothing screws up.
finally all the big things are over, and i can concentrate on choir! WOOOOOWEEE.. as well as studies!!! WOOOWEEE!

i just watched the guys of american idol perform, and honsetly speaking, i'm not entertained. they seriously bore me to death and i dunno why, but i don't feel as hyped up as past seasons. THIS IS THE BUILDUP TO THE FINAL 12, YET I DON'T FEEL A SINGLE THING. weird lah.

finally, thanks huihui for the present!!!! appreciate your time and dedication in designing my present hahah. =)

CEC Investiture

the cec council sec 4 level comm: me, nicholas, mr low, leonard, kuangnan and matthew
ALL THE SEC 4 CECs!!!
daryl, me, leonard, simon - cecs of 3j/4j
me, leonard, simon - "significant cec members" - quoted by alaric
me speaking on stage.
wenjian on stage speaking. with me and leonard on stage.
mrs albar and mr aguss pinning badges on 4J cec
wenjian emceeing cec investiture
alaric, bryan and sadikin playing with my camera HAHA.
investiture was nice, other than all those scolding of noisy and rowdy pupils making so much hooha over the slightest things. its a formal event, and we should give all due respect to the emcee, to the ppl on stage, to whoever's speaking. it really destroys the whole atmosphere and you don't want all the scolding/lecturing by the teachers and year head to occur again and again. we're sec 4s already guys, lets show some maturity. =)
***admiring my lovely cec council badge***
even max huang is complaining to me, saying we should've had this badge thing last year. hahhaa. now he can't wear it coz he's already a prefect. awwww...
oh, went to cafe cartel to 'celebrate' mingzhe's birthday. sat same table with ms wok haha. and shes really funny lah i tell you. made me conclude that geog teachers go TWO EXTREMES: either friggin entertaining or friggin b-o-r-i-n-g.

05 March 2007

happy birthday to me!!!!

ahh. celebrated a really memorable 16th birthday.
just in case i forget...here are the people whom i wish to thank from the bottom of my heart's bottom:
WENJIAN!!! and YUZHOU!!! - for buying this cute cute chocolate cake. and yes it tastes nice, although i also had a chocolate cake from my parents HAHA. can't believe you actually went out of the way and ran all the way to j8 to get the cake and RUN BACK to school and gimme the cakeee. =')
people who smsed me!!! - marvin, isaac, lionel, huihui (who intends to gimme a present haha), yanhan, charlene, chenhoon, cousins melodie and samantha
people who wished me a happy birthday somehow or another!! - alaric, mingzhe, shawn, bryanchia, danny, justin chua, leonard, daryl teo, REST OF 4J PEEPS
THANKS RV TO FOR WISHING ME A HAPPY BIRTHDAY! (though mr toh was more of a priority haha. =( --> guanwei, only u gave me the blue dolphin izzit? just wanetd to know heehee.
teachers who remembered my birthday!!! - ms cynthia chang, mr low june meng (who even got the class to sing a birthday song for me!!! don't know how they knew my birthday!! i was like momentarily stunned~~)
wenjian and i! lionel and i above this picture.
isaac and i!
me and alaric!
me astonished at how RV forget to wish me happy birthday on the whiteboard!!! (haha jkjk...no i'm serious. HAHAH nvm)
powerpacked sopranos, not to mention those not in the picture
top row (L to R): jiarong aka SopGuy, Joseph Kuan, Daniel Cheong
bottom row (L to R): the rather bored boy with an injured knee, yifan, qiule!
saved the best for the last! HAHA.

ok whatever.
anyway, today started off rather painful. literally painful. had to walk up 5 flights of steps with an injured kneecap on my left leg. which SUCKS. didn't want to use the lift, because the school said that only teachers can use the lift. well, if you insist. =)
after the EXCITING geography lesson that everyone LOOKS forward to....pe lesson came!
oh i rewrote the lyrics of the song 'Are you sleeping brother john?" to "Why you sleeping Cao YuBo?"
Why you sleeping, why you sleeping, Cao Yu Bo? Cao Yu Bo?
(___insert teacher's name___) is calling, (___insert teacher's name___) is calling,
Please wake up, Cao Yu Bo.
hot song right.
ok PE. was excused from rockclimbing, but i still had to put on the harness, despite wearing school uniform, which made me look utterly stupid. but as though i care like that. then when pe ended, walked out of the design centre, then mr eng saw me. then he asked me: "hey louis, you're still limping ah? i saw you limping last saturday too? how, are you ok?"
i was like.....WHAT? it was really cool because a) i don't know mr eng personally, and b) he KNEW I WAS LIMPING ON SATURDAY. and both reasons were cause for me to freak out.
nevertheless, prepared for maths ta afterwards, who was kinda cool. think i'll get 7/10. the proving question was lame. because i started on LHS first, and then i got stuck halfway. so i decided to start from the end of my answer using RHS, and slowly make my way to the centre where hopefully, i'll get a coincidental link between those two. unfortunately, it kinda screwed up, so i guess 3 marks gone.
and yes, the touching part came when i had my lunch and went back to raja block 1st floor. yuzhou and wenjian were pestering me to meet them. then at first, i was quite sad because only leonard and charles had lunch with me. but i was happy all over again when i knew yuzhou and wenjian actually BOUGHT A BREADTALK CAKE FOR ME!!!!! so toucheeeed!!!!
another touching part came when during cle lesson, mr low told the class to sing a happy birthday song to me!! AHHHH!!!!!
then the funny thing happened during choir. we were preparing so much to celebrate mr toh's birthday, getting party poppers and buying cakes and getting presents and all, and then he just came into the LT and we all wished him a happy birthday. then he said, "but my birthday is over already what. it's not nice to celebrate someone's birthday which is already over."
LOL. so plan kinda backfired. nevertheless, he tried to keep his cool throughout combined, if not we don't give him cake haha. (mr toh's birthday was on 3rd march. meaning its a belated 2 days. but mine's on the actual day!! roarrrrr.) nevertheless, some ppl celebrated and wished me happy birthday, and no one attempted taopoking me on the floor, becuase my leg is bloody injured. SO THATS A PHEW.

thanks to everyone who made my day today!
looking forward to another great day tomorrow, with cec investiture.
finally, the fruits of our labour.

04 March 2007

betty ain't ugly.

just watched the premiere of 'ugly betty' and it really is a great show. kinda reminescent of 'the devil wears prada', though the difference is that the girl, betty (america ferrera), is definitely uglier, and secondly the editor is a guy (eric mabius, who acted in resident evil.). kinda bittersweet looking at how she gets taunted by almost everyone in the company, criticizing her of her looks, her outfit, and just her overall image. no matter how talented she is, or how nice her character is, people still don't accept her for she just looks ugly. it's only through time and understanding that people know what she's made of. and its also people like these that eventually come out stronger than ever in the workforce.
they are the people who get constantly slammed by people NOT because of their work ethic, but because of their image. just like any other things, be it job interviews, singing competitions or even the selection of leaders - where usually looks triumph over talent. and it's just sad, because the people with true talent doesn't really get recognized and its just how society works. thats why people resort to cosmetic surgery, plastic surgery, all in an attempt to look prettier, to be socially accepted. why do we need to go through all these hassle and woes? only to look good in front of the public.

the show also briefly touches on stereotypes - how people like betty are actually being stereotyped wholly because of her looks. yes, granted she might be clumsy at times, but simply because she wears hideous clothes, she stands at the centre of attraction, and also, the centre of humiliation.
people in our school also suffer the same fate. just because they are a little different in looks, or have different values, doesn't grant people the right to taunt them, to ridicule them. yet, even though we've reached our final year in secondary school life, it's sad to see that some people are still so naive and insensitive to poke fun of others. people have moved on to do bigger things in life, to develop oneself; and yet others are still caught within their microscopic lives, not willing to venture out and do something.

it's just my opinion, each and everyone may have their own set of problems and difficulties, but at the end of the day, everyone needs to develop a sense of understanding, and appreciate the community from a broader perspective.

Number of songs on my charts since Jan'07: 57 (i think i can compile another list of top 200 songs for 2007)

sunrise feels like i'm in paradise

look at my horrendous leg. its now bandaged so neatly, thanks to my mum. heehee. because of this, i haven't really been concentrating on my maths/chem work. and with all the council and choir stuff, have even lesser time to revise, which gets rather frustrating. but the good thing is that i can use this to excuse myself from rockclimbing next week. yay~

went to celebrate my bd at this restaurant called Oosh. ooooh and i simply loved my pacfic dory which looks and tastes super duper exquisite. see, it looks just so bloody delicious.
right now, i'm going to race the last lap of revision. good luck to me.

03 March 2007

can't bring myself to do what it is you think i should

aww...i feel so touched today.
after choir (which i shouldn't touch on cos its rather sensitive, other than the fact that I INJURED MY KNEE AND ITS SUPER UGLY NOW IT CAN RIVAL UGLY BETTY --> meaning i can't ROCKCLIMB for PE. yay), went home. parents fetched me to buy my contact lenses, which increased in prices. paid $240 for 6 months of non-spectacle treatment. how irritating.

afterwards, dad dropped mum at chinatown, then she went to collect a cake. when she came back to the car, i ddn't ask what was the cake for. i thought since because we going to my cousin's house, maybe its just a gift for the guest or something. when we reached my cousin's house, aunties started giving me angpows. i was like what????? why gimme angpows.
THEN EVERYTHING STARTED SINKING IN. THEY GAVE ME ANGPOWS FOR MY BIRTHDAY. THEN MY MUM OPENED THE CAKE BOX AND ON THE CAKE WROTE: "HAPPY BIRTHDAY LOUIS!!" i almost cried i tell you. i so didn't expected it, especially after a tiring day at school for the whole of this week. i just needed something like this to perk me up. and it was so intersting how i didn't know about all this and they intended for all the aunties to gather at my cousin's house to gimme a suprise birthday celebration!

What did I wish for:
1) to go far for CSS
2) prioritize cecc and choir
3) freaking do well for studies. And I mean DO WELL and I say DO WELL.

Cny dinner…
Lol, being a buddy really is -.- compared to being a waiter >.< I’ve learnt my lesson never to volunteer for something I SUCK at. And that is being a buddy who can’t speak any dialect (although I know malay, no one in my table was a malay. They were all elderly aunties) The ora performances were rather entertaining, and the moor performance, I admittedly confess, the dance part was rather cool, with all the lion dance stuff thingy (DUH, obviously the judges gave ownage scores for that segment). But the singing part…. I’m sorry but uhuh. Couldn’t hear the words clearly. And I began to realize: The interact club exco comm formed a majority of the moor performance!!!!! Really coincidental man… nevertheless, gj anzhen for cny. Hope you guys are up to par for tracknfield yeah. Jiayou mannn. ;)

simon, leonard and daryl - the CEC members of 4J. and ME, the king of all cecs. oh, and these were the great ppl of 4J involved in the cny dinner. =)wenjian and moiii, with the aunties at our table. table number 8 - care corner.

photo of ernxu and kangjie and me after sectionals. rather bored at that time LOL.

my hot bruised/cut/scratched/injured/DISGUSTING knee.

02 March 2007

sitting, waiting, wishing.

waiting in the library for 4 hours suck.
yawn.
oh, and spoiler. - aj talbado, alaina alexander, nicholas pedro and leslie hunt out. HAHA, leslie hunt bumdididummmmed her way out. loser. thought she would've gone further though.
and bloody sanjaya is still in. --> boring young little boy.

01 March 2007

gettin angry won't solve anything

Man, finally. the days of ccts and rubbish things are ALL OVER. *heaves a sigh of egonormous huge relief* - ss was pretty fun, considering i was writing nonstop for a consecutive 45 minutes, without even bothering to look at the sources.

AND I WOULD LIKE TO CONGRATULATE BUCKLEY FOR BEING FIRST IN TRACK AND FIELD FOR THE FIRST TWO DAYS! LOVE YOU SOOO MUCH peoplee, esp 1F dudes! (speaking of which, i did rubbish for my triple jump LOL. i wasn't even in the mood lor please. jumped like a measly 8.10+m --> which is a horrendous result.)

now the next big thing. CEC INVESTITURE. really looking forward to that day.

honestly speaking, my feeling for CEC as a whole has grown so much fonder, considering the fact that i've been a cec member for the past 3 years, till this year, where i'm appointed a post with definitely more responsibilities. i somewhat make or break the cec council in years to come. having said that, i hope that this year's cec council will be a great one, with guidance from ms chang as well as support from all the friendly councilmates. looking forward to a great cec year!

oh speaking of which, Prefects investiture was a rather successful one, besidse the fact that a) the car nearly toppled. b) the song was particularly boring. and c) i was doing a rather boring job of bringing the GOH up and down. i looked dumb walking to and fro my seat LOL.

A BIG CONGATULATIONS TO GREGORY AND KANGJIE FOR FINALLY BEING OFFICIAL PREFECTS OF THE SCHOOL!!!!!!!!

A.J. Tabaldo: "Feelin' Good" - was slightly whining, and actions were too exaggerated, making him look somewhat like a transvestite in crude terms. nevertheless, it was the voice, not the look, that was relatively decent. - 6.0
Blake Lewis: "Virtual Insanity" - LOVEDD his beatbox, a first in idol history. nice flowing falsetto and a unique song choice. sounded a bit too much like the original though, copycat? - 8.0
Brandon Rogers: "Time After Time" - not vocally challenging. sweet, simple, sounded very much like a song a white man would sing. all his stupid comments like 'i felt it' were so unncessary, i hope he's out because of that. 7.0
Chris Richardson: "Geek In The Pink" - OWNEDD joakim. change in all the phrasings of the song composition was fabulous, like his previous performance. feel he's a tad bit too packaged, has to be defining. simon said he was the 'best by a mile'. - 8.5
Chris Sligh: "Trouble" - good song choice, so a different side of him. improved in terms of voice quality, blossomed. taylor did the song before, and his performance could par taylor's. i found it a very boring ballad though. - 7.5
Jared Cotter: "Let's Get It On" - soulful, but didn't leave any impact on audience. outfit also very dull, predictable. not disctintive. still, looks will bring you further than you should last. - 6.5
Nicholas Pedro: "Fever" - one of the best in my personal opinion. very jazzy, sleek, full of raw emotions and feel. the raspy voice helped a lot. he was back to his roots and he had interstingly good charisma. - 8.0
Phil Stacey: "Missing You" - just a normal bleargh performance, definitely cannot match chris daughtry. not that impressive as last week, though he still has a great stage presence. i can't get use to his rather evil-sinister face. - 7.0
Sanjaya Malakar: "Steppin' Out With My Baby" - SUPER BORING. one-dimensional. BORING. think he's michael jackson and indeed a weird looking outfit. he better be out. i was sleeping during his performance. - 5.0
Sundance Head: "Mustang Sally" - ONE OF THE NIGHT'S BEST. improved by leaps and bounds. very engaging, with a very rock edge feel in the song. somehow he learnt how to be charimastic and his vocal range was broadened. very surprising, one of the night's best vocals. looks like votefortheworst.com will stop voting for him. - 9.0

i don't have the girls' song titles.

Alaina Alexander: “Not ready to make nice” - smart song to sing, considering they just won most of the grammys last week. Not bad, personally thought she improved. But she was always hitting the roof and where was the tuning and pitch during the chorus? Messy, ran out of steam. – 6.5
Antonella Barba: sang a Celine Dion song. After that controversial scandal, she definitely appeared nervous on set and she didn’t speak much. Could see she was distracted. Pitchy, boring, but better than last week. Nevertheless, dropdead beautiful. Simon thought she got worse. – 5.5
Gina Glocksen: powerhouse vocals, very rough yet beautiful voice. Loud and angsty. High notes were great. Could’ve beaten Carrie’s version. Vocals at the end were rather forced. Simon is confused about her personality. - 8.0
Haley Scarnato: some upbeat song. Showed a different personality. Spunky, low rough edgy sound. Let it all out, a good performance but forgettable. Simon thinks she would have to pack her bags. -7.5
Jordin Sparks: "Reflections” – a very typical idol song. Neverhtless, quite touching/emotional/inspirational. Slightly pitchy, but she’s such a young talent and has a infectious personality. Simon insulted Alaina, who asked him how should she improve. Simon suggested that she sang as well as Jordin.
Lakisha Jones: "Midnight train in Georgia” – very good vocals as expected, felt that personality was lacking. Pitch was spot-on and she had the spirit and vibe. Outfit was rather distracting though. -8.5
Leslie Hunt: “Feeling good” – great acapella intro, very attention-grabbing. But afterwards, it started getting pitchy. And what was with all the BADUDUMDUMDIDIDIDUM?? Simon said the ending sounded like Paula talking. – 6.5
Melinda Doolittle: "My Funny Valentine” – very inspirational, sincere. Jazz factor was there and her stage presence was perfect. Has the winning spirit and a very out-of-the-world yet incredible vocal. – 9.0
Sabrina Sloan: sound a bit noisy. Shouldn’t equate power with screaming. Starting part was very pristine. Loud parts were rather pitchy, but overall a good performance. -8.0
Stephanie Edwards: Very Mary J.Blige. nice phrasings here and there, overall a good song choice. Strong powerhouse vocals. But amongst all the black singers, I think she’s one of the less unique ones. -9.0

Predicted eliminations: Sanjaya Malakar, AJ Talbado, Alaina Alexander, Haley Scarnato
- i still have a feeling antonella will be in.
