CAN SOMEONE TELL ME IF TOKYO DRIFT IS REALLY A NICE SONG? HOLY GOD, ITS NUMBER 68 ON 987 CHARTS? LOL joke.

the name game

i can't believe that Great Singapore Sale is now...
SUPER SINGAPORE SALE.
yes, i see the alliteration usage going on, but how can you change a name that has been used by singaporeans again and again?!?!
if thats not enough,
centrepoint is now renamed as THE CENTREPOINT.
Novena square is now renamed as guess what?
VELOCITY! (pronunced as vee-lo-city thank you.)

imagine if you're a taxi driver and if you had to remember all that.
i can imagine this scenario:
louis: uncle, velocity.
uncle: oh vivocity ah.
louis: NO UNCLE. veee lo city.
uncle: huh? na li?
louis: fine. novena square.

to think i tot the gst hikes and postage cost increase weren't bad enough. all for a fine city. =)
oh and now i'm listening to top 100 of 987. so lousy compared to my top 200. HAHA.

new year's eve's eve

finally found some breathing time to post.
ok what was up this week?

watched charlotte's web with chenhoon @vivocity after choir prac. the cinema screens there are heck big. i told chenhoon: WAH SO BIG. then she was laughing like crazy, i tot what happened. and i somehow figured out that i said 'WAH SO BIG' the moment the screen showed these two women wearing swimwear. -.- stupid 7up fido dido advertisement. LOL. afterwards, went to buy a pinkshirt.a pullandbear longsleeve shirt. and a red chinesenewyear shirt. yay.

wednesday and thursday were psl training session days. had some mad rush typing and email sending and wakingupearlying and takingthebusquicklying, all in a bid to reach school early with things done. sad to say, our contact list ended up screwed. and it makes me wonder if they could've done a better job.

do not judge, or you will be judged too <-- quoted from marvin's nick. i have already worked my butt off to make the database look as nice as possible. so please appreciate me and not criticize me. thank you. but ocbc comm really rocks.

me, ben and chris!! =)
today was the farewell celebrations for the sec 4 dudes of rv. kind of bittersweet, to recall the memories when i was sec 1 and when they were sec 2s. and now, another touching moment as they are handing down the leadership duties to us. thinking of which, they had a real hectic time this year with events like...the combined musical groups concert (myriad), our very own concert (keeping the dream alive), combined choirs concert (prelude to advent), and most importantly the choir trip which took us to the international level. they really deserve all the applauses i can catch hold of.

kialiang.weiren.bennett.julian.geoffrey.christopher.joash.mingshu.wenjun..qihan.
isaac.gerald.friedemann.ivan.woonhian.yongfeng.leon.wendi.bryantan. & mrstan.
thank you and goodbye!!
sops!!

a million thanks to...

i guess i really haven't been appreciative this year. so i'd like to take this time to thank almost the whole world who helped me in 2006. in no particular order, here it goes...
  • the most recent one... OCBC members. Leonard, WenJian, Gabriel, XianChen, thanks for all the help during this period. all the administrative work and everything. we somewhat rotated our duties farely well, especially leonard and wenjian. hope to a better working relationship next year during the orientation camp and psgms!
  • fellow buckley debaters. ashish, nigel fong, wangye. we actually made it all the way to the finals and actually defeat hullett. thats' really got to be a feat. we overcame the odds, and i think we broke the stereotype of buckley always getting last. well, hope in the coming '07, buckley can do better under the leadership of marvin. we have faith in you!! also, if there weren't any help from marvin and jiawei, i guess we wouldn't have gone far too. so kudos to you two!
  • arena teammates - yuzhou and readon and wangye. thanks for tolerating my craziness, my crying, and every single thing that i was whining about even after the results. couldn' have done it without you guys. and during the preparation phase, we really did our preparations like no other team did. will always love you and will always remember this unforgettable experience.
  • my cec level comm, nich yun, akaash, gabriel, leonard - especially nich yun. thanks for always being there when i needed help and thanks for accompanying me with ms sim's occasional tugging of shoulders and sceraming of scumbags. haha. akaash, thanks for always being ready when ineeded your help. hope to working with you guys in future!
  • teachers. ms sim, for being our year head for the final year, and despite you carrying your baby, you're still maintain cheery and positive-looking always! we'll never forget you. also, i'd like to thank those teachers who were very encouraging when i was taking up major roles in important events, mrs lim for ptm, mr lim for sec 4 grad, mr desmond tan for encouraging me to take up this leadership position, fts mr wee and mrs albar. thanks for everything.
  • fellow classmates - Alaric, bryan chia, lionel, isaac. thanks for always being there for me when i was at my lowest peak. i know some of us have this clique going on,and i hope we can really treasure it. haha i miss all the bitching and the gossiping and everything, can't wait to get back to school for that. to some of the classmates who still dun really like me, and i can say is, you guys have made me become stronger mentally and whatever you have to say about me, i'll just listen and perhaps grow from it.
  • exclassmates - wenjian, yuzhou, zerome, jiawei, marvin, ziyang, chenghan, kuanhua, dylan, daniel, guowei, kelvin. you guys have really been great. i think we're the most bonded class ever since we departed for sec 3. miss all the mcdonalds gathering and walks to j8/thirdlang. hope to always keep this class spirit as well as the mass outing to yuzhou's SE concert. man, didn't have time for a class chalet this year. does anyone wanna volunteer to plan one next year?
  • thirdlangppl - dylan, samuel, chriskwan, ruihao, norris. WE LASTED 3 YEARS! HAHA. more group work and 'exciting' lessons ahead yeah. never say dieeee... thanks for encouraging me not to quit. i'll not. =)
  • RV'ers - from male chamber to tour group 4. i really love the times we spend making music together and how close we actually bonded during the trip. sharing moments of joy and sadness,i guess we've been through a lot. special thanks goes out to chriszhao and benlow, for the many lunches we had after practices. also thankyou grp 4, esp guanwei, gerald, julian for always being there to help out. also wanna appreciate what the previous exco have done for us, kialiang and weiren. the current exco will do our best to bring rv to greater heights.
  • great choir friends - jem, jiajun. thanks jem for attending most of the concerts rv had, and thanks for all the talks and presents!!! jiajun, same 2 you, thanks for accompanying me for all the late night suppers. haha. oh also thanks melissa for the many sms conversations and discussing some of the *ahem* problems and disputes haha.
  • PL groupmates - jonlim. binglong. tom. jonneo. hiokhong. danny. leonardyap. biran. s' been great getting to know you guys and the way you work. hope this'll extend our social circle. will never forget this wonderful grp.
  • schoolmates - karliang. thanks for all the music and reailty tv exchanging! also, cec members, thanks for all your cooperation and help rendered whenever needed. couldn't possibly have gotten enough manpower without yr volunteerism. thanks a lot guys.

my music awards

ok, just in case you are wondering 'how did i derive my top 200 songs?'
i based my decision on 3 criteria:
40% chart performance - how it has been faring on MY charts
60% - radio airplay, lasting appeal [popularity], lyrics/arrangement, friends' recommendation, music videos and catchy phrases would be a bonus.

moving on...i shall have.. my very own music awards!!! [winners in red]
Most Popular Male Artist:

James Morrison
Jason Mraz
Justin Timberlake
Nick Lachey
Teddy Geiger

Rising stars James Morrison and Teddy Geiger are big stars in the making. each with very diverse personalities and voices, they do deserve a place in this category. jason mraz never fails to have one good song after another, with singles like 'life is wonderful' and 'geek in the pink', which made joakim gomez really popular. nick lachey, having separated with jessica simpson, certainly woke up after the breakup. his voice too woke up! with a vocally challenging single 'whats left of me', he went on to impress with songs like 'on your own'. but the award goes to justin timberlake. No one beats him for being the most popular male artist. Having hosted one MTV awards show this year, and with his successful collaborations with artistes like T.I and Timbaland, he definitely has produced another successful solo album, coming out of his bubblegum pop roots. with a great relationship with cameron diaz, this chap has a bright future ahead.
Most Popular Female Artist:

Beyonce
Carrie Underwood
Christina Aguilera
Nelly Furtado
Paris Hilton

All the 5 of them have had very successful careers this year. Paris has her first studio album, and to the shock of many, has done reasonably well in charts and has received much airplay, to add on to her Simple Life success. Nelly furtado made a massive comeback, with her breakthrough single Promiscuous with Timbaland, and with latest singles maneater and all good things, she has a bright future ahead. Christina this year was Back to Basics, still with her sultry voice that touches peoples' hearts. Carrie Underwood has got to be the next most successful artiste out of american idol after kelly clarkson, topping many charts and making it harder for faith hill to win the best female country artiste. but all in all, i give this award to beyonce, simply because there was much controversy over her first two singles, deja vu and ring the alarm, but she came back stronger with irreplacable, which many people are humming to now. moreover, she has ended herself in a leading role in Dreamgirls, and she's nominated for a golden globe best actress award. thus, beyonce certainly deserves this award for overcoming the odds, breaking away from her 'destiny's child' profile.
Best New Artiste (Group act - Rock/Pop)

Danity Kane
The Fray
Ok Go!
Panic! at the disco
Razorlight

fresh from the 'making-the-band' oven, danity kane rose to stardom and is often spotted at awards shows. a girl group to look out for, but will they be showstoppers in the years to come? the fray dazzles people with its very nice ballads, emotional vocals and meaningful lyrics. this band is kar liang's pick. ok go!!! one hella good band found on.... myspace. their mtv awards performance was really entertaining, and their song 'here it goes again' is definitely addictive. razorlight, a band with very meaningful lyrics from songs like 'america' and 'in the morning'. 'america' is picked by Q magazine as the number one song this year. this award, however, goes to panic at the disco. their music prowness and creative music videos go to show that they will stick around for some time. with very very long song titles 'but its better if you do' and 'i write sins, not tragedies' that get etched on yr mind, what more can you say? they have also won many accolades and awards from respective awards shows, including Best Group Act.

~~oh they're showing love actually now! one of my all-time favorite movies!!~~~~

Best New Artist (Male)

Hady Mirza
James Morrison
Mario Vazquez
Nick Lachey
Teddy Geiger
hady mirza, our singapore idol. songs like freedom and you give me wings show his wide vocal range, and recent appearances on 'wish upon a star' make ppl to up to him. american idol contestant mario vazquez withdrew from the competition upon reaching the final 12. but he managed to release his debut album, with the addictive track 'gallery', making it one of a club favorite. nick lachey, definitely is better than he was in 98 degrees, with a better solo career. teddy geiger, only 18 years old, deserve a special mention. a singer-songwriter is one of a rare find these days, knowing how to play the guitar would be a plus. the winner, however, is james morrison. his raspy, crisp voice certainly gives you the goosebumps. a very good jazz/pop singer, songs like 'wonderful world' and 'you give me something' became an instant hit.
