ridiculous

all i can say to rafflesian spotlight. ridiculous.
since i'm not in the top 12, i think i have the right to say what i felt about the whole process.
well, i applaud them for bringing RS back again, and it has received an overwhelming number of contestants.
but sadly, it has not been back BIGGER nor BETTER.
this is why i say so.

1) The auditions didn't start on time and....who is that judge??

- the reason the committee gave was that they could not find any judges, hence the delay.

WHAT YOU MEAN you couldn't find any judges? you mean there were no fixed judges throughout the audition process? the ridiculous thing is that, the judges were different on the first two days of auditions. TOTALLY different except for one teacher and one student-judge, if thats what you'd like to call (which i think is inappropriate). and on day two, there were two random teachers who were asked to judge. this meant that, on day 1, there were 3 judges, and on day 2, 4 judges! how cool is that.

here, i question the qualifications behind their judging ability. since u took them last minute, what does it show about the committee's efficiency? i believe by just choosing random teachers to judge the participants, you're not only showing disrespect to the contestants, but also to the prestige of the competition, which existed 2 years back.

2) What did they base their selections on?

- I happen to see that they were grading us according to rubrics? like hello. this is Rafflesian Spotlight, not Asia Bagus. Even in any singing competition, u wouldn't see a specific rubric guideline (pitch, tone, rhythm?) like what is that? i think there shouldn't even be a rubric in the first place and the judges should be more flexible in their decisions. i believe some contestants were able to capture the audience's attention coz they were creative, but they somehow didn't get in! so, please, get rid of that rubric.

i believe that much more can be done and improved. and this whole process of auditioning and everything, in my opinion, hasn't been much of a success. well, admitted i'm a little sore, no..VERY sore about this, i think the judges saw something in the final 12 contestants and perhaps they sing better than me, they're more entertaining than me. as a matter of fact, some of them are just in the top 12 because they know the judges personally.

so i have nothing more to say. the spotlights have certainly dimmed much this time around. but well, i still wish the final 12 contestants the best of luck! rest assured the results will be very unpredictable. very! and i will most likely save the $10 for something else rather than attend the performance night.

(p.s yes i'm not in the top 12. cheerios. rest assured i won't participate in any more sch singing competitions. cos i don't get any constructive comments which will help me in my vocal techniques or stage presence or any other factor as a matter of fact. i guess i'll have to wait till i become an adult. right now, i have no career plans.)
